Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp named Premier League Manager of the Season

The award for Premier League Manager of the Season has been given out on Tuesday evening.

The winners of the Premier League Player of the Season and Premier League Young Player of the Season were announced last week and saw Manchester City dominate.

Kevin De Bruyne picked up the Player of the Season accolade, whilst Phil Foden was named Young Player of the Season.

Manchester City could not make it a hat-trick, though, as Pep Guardiola missed out on the Manager of the Season award to Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp wins the award for a second time, having also claimed it in 2019/20 after steering Liverpool to their first Premier League title.

The 54-year-old won after votes from the public were combined with those of a panel of football experts to decide who would top a five-man shortlist.

That five-man shortlist consisted of Klopp, Guardiola, Eddie Howe, Thomas Frank and Patrick Vieira.

Why did Klopp win?

A question many people are asking after the winner of the award was announced.

Klopp’s Liverpool finished a point behind Man City in the league, scored fewer goals and conceded the same number of goals.

Manchester City, £100m on Jack Grealish, may have also spent more than Liverpool this season, around £76m on Ibrahima Konate and Luiz Diaz, but the gap in money spent isn’t exactly enough to suggest Klopp overcame the odds to take the title race down to the wire.
