Kevin Durant doesn’t think 90s, 80s were more physical than today
NBA legends who played in the 80s and 90s often call today’s game soft. The likes of Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal talk about how the game was much tougher in their era.
Kevin Durant thinks that this notion is not true. The two-time NBA champion watches videos from previous eras and his impression is that there used to be much more flagrant fouls which makes the game appear as more physical.
“I go back and watch a lot of that 90s film, 80s stuff,” Durant said on Boardroom. “They play physical but I just think they got away with a lot of flagrant fouls and I think that’s why they call their era more physical than ours.
“Guys play physical here too. It’s more space but guys play physical. We got strong athletic guys here too. But I watched some of those games.
“The pain was clear, nobody was getting touched. It wasn’t a lot of help defense but you did get a lot of flagrant fouls that didn’t result into fines or getting kicked out the game. So it just seemed like it was a little tougher.”
