Jordan Poole on being a Wizard: “Have my own team, play my own type of basketball”

This offseason marked a significant change for Jordan Poole as the Warriors traded him to the Wizards after a successful four-year stint in San Francisco.

Poole, having secured a championship in 2022 and a substantial four-year, $128 million contract extension, now embraces a different role in Washington.

In Golden State, he shared the backcourt with superstars Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. However, in Washington, he emerges as the star player.

Reflecting on this shift, Poole told Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, “It’s a bit different too, like, once your contract is signed and once you got a ring. Essentially everything that needed to be done in Golden State got done. I got a ring. Made sure my family is straight. A good situation to come in [to Washington] and just kind of have my own team, play my own type of basketball.”

This season, Poole is showcasing his skills, averaging 17.4 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 26.9 minutes per game—slightly below his previous numbers with the Warriors.
