Joel Embiid echoes sheer desire to win title ‘whether it’s in Philly or anywhere else’

For Joel Embiid, it’s now or never now for him to capture that elusive championship — whether he’s in Philly or not.

As he was asked by Maverick Carter in a recent interview with regards to what he’s been looking forward to about his future, the reigning league MVP dropped a cryptic statement about his ultimate desire to win an NBA title and what must it take to reach that goal.

“I just want to win a championship. Whatever it takes, I don’t know where that’s going to be, whether it’s in Philly or anywhere else. I just want to have a chance to accomplish [it]. I want to see what it feels like to win so that you can’t think about the next one,” he said.

“It’s not easy, but it takes more than one coach, two or three else [players]. Gotta have good people around you and I myself, every single day I work hard to be up on that level.”

The sand in the hourglass is starting to fall down completely for the Philadelphia 76ers.

This offseason has been a massive blow for them as James Harden, who serves as their complementing co-star and floor general for Embiid, remains determined to get traded after a disgruntling free agency and now marred relationship with team president Daryl Morey. Though they were able to tap a newer face and presence at the sidelines in Nick Nurse, it remains a panic time for the 76ers on how they’ll be able to end this summer on a high note and eventually discover their resolution with the All-Star guard.

Under the “Process” era from Embiid’s leadership which started in the 2017-18 season, the franchise’s competitive ceiling remains stuck at the Conference Semifinals. They are yet to get even over the hump of the said stage and book a seat to the East Finals since the notable 2000-01 campaign bannered by former cornerstone Allen Iverson.

This enticing message which came from Embiid can only be considered a double-edged sword. While the words may promote competitive and urgent moves at the side of the franchise brass, these meanwhile hand a pressuring sensation on their goal of continuing to convince the Cameroonian superstar to stay and remain committed to their grand plan.

It is safe to assume that Embiid remains laser focused to pull it off with Phila once and for all. If not, there is reportedly an emerging Eastern Conference power that remains lurking to acquire his service.
