The contract negotiations between Jaylen Brown and the Celtics have entered a crucial phase as the 26-year-old forward is extension eligible since July 1, 2023.

Adrian Wojnarowski, a renowned NBA insider, has reported that Brown’s potential new deal could make history as the richest contract in NBA history, potentially reaching a staggering $304 million.

While discussions between Brown’s agent and the Celtics are ongoing, there is no immediate agreement in sight. Brown’s upcoming Players’ Association business commitments will temporarily put the talks on hold, but both sides are expected to resume negotiations upon his return.

Negotiating a contract of this magnitude involves various factors beyond the maximum salary. Trade kickers, player option years, and payment schedules are among the complexities to consider. However, the Celtics and Brown have ample time this summer to work towards a mutually beneficial agreement.

During the 2022-23 season, Brown averaged 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. As one of the league’s rising stars, securing a record-breaking contract would cement his status as a cornerstone player for the Celtics while setting a new standard in NBA contract value.
