How many signings Manchester United are aiming to make this month

Manchester United will, perhaps optimistically, look to make five signings this month as their recruitment under Erik ten Hag looks to step up ahead of the new season.

The Red Devils finished in a lowly sixth place last season, but are yet to make a senior addition amid seven departures, something that has not gone unnoticed by star man Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, as per the Manchester Evening News, progress is expected to be made in the coming few weeks, with as many as five new additions on the way.

First of those will be Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia, who is already in Manchester for a medical ahead of his switch to Old Trafford. Meanwhile, a deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is still being worked on, and there is confidence that Ten Hag’s links with Lisandro Martinez will hand them the upper hand in a move for the Argentine over fellow interested party Arsenal.

Beyond that, there is also an offer on the table for current free agent Christian Eriksen, who is expected to choose between the Red Devils and former club Brentford in the coming days.

Additionally, a second-choice goalkeeper will be added, with last season’s option Dean Henderson having joined Nottingham Forest on loan at the beginning of July.

Will it be enough?

There is still plenty of concern about other areas of the Manchester United squad, especially should Ronaldo depart as he wants to.

A defensive midfielder remains inexplicably absent from the list of transfer targets that the club seem to have, while there are also concerns about the forward line currently at the club, especially should they not sign Antony from Ajax.

A slow start to business, from the club that arguably needed to do the most this summer, has put plenty of pressure back onto the Manchester United hierarchy.
