Former Celtics forward Grant Williams, now a part of the Mavericks, shared a story about his time living with NBA veteran Kemba Walker during the 2020 lockdown.

This unique bond between teammates formed during the uncertain days when the NBA season was in limbo due to the global pandemic.

Williams spoke highly of Walker, who joined Monaco this offseason, referring to him as one of the best veterans he has had the privilege of learning from in his career. He emphasized Walker’s selfless nature and willingness to go above and beyond to support his teammates.

“Kemba’s one of the best vets if not the best that I’ve had,” Williams shared during an interview on The Hoop Chat with Emily Austin. “He’s a guy that is selfless. He will always offer his shirt off his back for you.

“And even when I was living with him, he did a phenomenal job of just making sure I try to train, it kept my body into shape and made sure I was prepared for if we ever go back.”

According to Williams, Walker not only opened his home but also his heart to ensure Williams felt comfortable and prepared for any eventuality during the NBA’s suspension.

The two players engaged in a variety of activities, from playing board games to video games, and they respected each other’s need for personal space.

“But he made sure that we were able to jus kind of be comfortable around one another whether it was playing games like playing board games, playing video games, whether it was just kind of like give your own space because you can’t be around somebody at all times,” he continued.

Reflecting on the experience, Williams described living with Walker as one of the coolest and most impactful things that could have happened to him during those uncertain times.

“So opening up his house for me was one of the coolest and most impactful things he could have done for me, especially at that time,” Williams said.
