Gabriel Jesus mocked by Brazilian media for joining Arsenal

Gabriel Jesus has been mocked for his decision to join Arsenal this summer.

After what felt like an age, Arsenal finally announced Jesus as their player on July 4th. The Gunners are understood to have paid £45m for the South American, with Jesus put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

Jesus has also been given the no.9 shirt and is expected to be the north Londoner’s main source of goals next season.

Now though, Jesus has been mocked for his decision to join Arsenal this summer.

Band presenter Neto, a big name in Brazilian sports media, has been criticising the move recently, having this to say:

“I saw that Gabriel Jesus went to Arsenal. Small club. Small club. Portuguesa Santista are bigger than Arsenal. Arsenal have won what in the last five years?” asked Neto.

“Then Gabriel Jesus, who broke through at Palmeiras, five years at Manchester City, two years without scoring for the Brazilian national team, do you think he deserves to go to the World Cup? Or Gabigol? Who is good at ball? Who’s been scoring a lot of goals for five years?”

Calling Arsenal a small club is somewhat harsh given their history. However, there are few who can argue that leaving Manchester City for the Gunners in 2022 is not a step down.

City have dominated the English game for the best part of five years now, whilst Arsenal have not been in the Champions League since 2017.
