Nottingham Forest secured a crucial 1-0 victory over reigning champions Manchester City at The City Ground, thanks to a brilliant strike from Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The opening 45 minutes were closely contested, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut opportunities.
City dominated possession, looking to break down Forest’s well-organised defensive line, but their usual fluidity in attack was lacking.
Forest, on the other hand, played on the counter-attack, using the pace of Anthony Elanga and Hudson-Odoi to exploit space left by City’s high defensive line.
The hosts had their first real opportunity when Chris Wood latched onto a long ball over the top, but his attempt to lob Ederson lacked power and was comfortably gathered by the Brazilian goalkeeper.
City’s best chance of the half came when Nico Gonzalez tried his luck from distance, his strike crashing off the outside of the post. Phil Foden also had a chance to break the deadlock but saw his close-range effort blocked by Nicolas Dominguez.
The second half started with more attacking intent from Forest, who looked increasingly confident in their approach.

They pressed higher up the pitch and troubled City’s backline, particularly through Hudson-Odoi’s dribbling ability.
City had a dangerous free-kick just outside the box, with Kevin De Bruyne stepping up to take it. However, Matz Sels was equal to the task, making a comfortable save. Minutes later, a curling effort from De Bruyne sailed just wide of the post.
The breakthrough came in the 83rd minute. Morgan Gibbs-White picked up the ball in midfield and spotted Hudson-Odoi in space on the right.
The winger cut inside, took on Josko Gvardiol, and unleashed a powerful shot towards the near post. The ball squeezed past Ederson and into the net, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
City responded by throwing more bodies forward in search of an equaliser. Pep Guardiola introduced Omar Marmoush and De Bruyne in a bid to add more attacking impetus.
Mateo Kovacic had a final opportunity, striking a volley from the edge of the box, but his effort whistled just wide of the post.
Forest held on for a famous victory, much to the delight of their supporters. The City Ground was in full voice as the final whistle confirmed a crucial three points for the home side.
Nottingham Forest will look to build on this momentum as they push for a top-four finish. Meanwhile, City will need to regroup quickly as they chase them down in the final 10 games.
