Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Has Two Discs, and Fans Think It’s Hilarious

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was the final announcement at Summer Game Fest 2023, as we got gameplay and a launch window for the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 game. But it wasn’t the footage or Early 2024 news that got fans talking. It was this:`

Two discs!

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth comes on two discs, and Square Enix really wants you to know it. It’s not uncommon to see big PlayStation or Xbox games come on two discs — late-generation PS4 and Xbox One games like Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us Part 2, and even Final Fantasy VII Remake come to mind — but it’s the loud, emphatic placement of this seemingly trivial fact that’s making the internet talk. Plus, the nostalgia of the PlayStation 1 days when the original Final Fantasy VII came on multiple discs is a nice callback.

In the immediate moments following the Summer Game Fest showcase, “2 discs” started trending on Twitter. Many fans were just simply tweeting “2 discs!”, but others took the joke even farther. Even PlayStation itself got in on the fun, as its tweet of the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trailer points out the pair of discs as well.
