Eagles, Saquon Barkley share ‘mutual interest’ as free agency looms

The New York Giants opted against placing the franchise tag on running back Saquon Barkley for the second straight season, setting him up to test free agency for the first time in his career.

It’s a decision that may backfire on the Giants and general manager Joe Schoen, especially if he remains within the division.

Those fears could quickly become reality as the Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly interested in signing Barkley when free agency begins next week, and the interest is apparently mutual.

Some will argue that this is purely a negotiation tactic by Barkley but if he’s able to remain in the northeast and land a large contract, it would be the ideal situation for him. He’d also like to make the Giants pay for letting him walk.
