Donovan Mitchell has made it clear that he won’t be signing an extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers this year.

However, he wants everyone to know that the door for an extension remains wide open next offseason.

“I want it to be known that I still have the opportunity to sign an extension next summer. I don’t think a lot of people understand that aspect,” Mitchell emphasized, as reported by Tony Pesta of Fear The Sword.

Mitchell, who arrived in Cleveland last summer through a trade, had an impressive season, averaging 28.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 35.8 minutes per game.

Currently, the 27-year-old shooting guard has three more years left on his existing 5-year, $163 million contract, which stretches until the 2025-26 season (with a player option for the final year).
