Does New York Giants’ Saquon Barkley have a future as a play-caller?
We all know what New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley can do on the playing field, but he could also have a future on the sidelines as a play-caller.
Last week in Washington, Barkley actively lobbied for the coaches to call a play-action utilizing tight end Daniel Bellinger. It worked and Barkley let everyone know whose idea it was.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll said he has a high level of trust with Barkley and is always open to ideas.
“I’d say really all of our players, but particularly Saquon,” Daboll told reporters. “He’s been a good player for us. There’s stuff you can see during the game, on the sideline or up in the box, but when the players see it when they’re out there on the field, as long as they’re giving you the correct information, that’s always helpful.
“So, whether it’s Saquon, or the quarterback, or a defensive player, I think that’s the job of the coaching staff, too, to have good communication with the players. Now, if they come off and say, ‘This is going to work’ or, ‘I’m open every play,’ and you go back to the tape and say, ‘It really didn’t happen that way,’ then. . . But Saquon’s got a good feel for it, absolutely.”
It will be interesting to see how much input Barkley will have on the gameplan going forward.
