Dario Saric’s reverence for European basketball legends Drazen Petrovic and Toni Kukoc

Dario Saric, the Croatian forward who recently joined the Golden State Warriors, reminisced about his childhood and the basketball legends who shaped his early love for the game.

In an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Saric shared his deep respect for two European icons, Toni Kukoc and Drazen Petrovic, both Croatians.

Saric revealed, “I was about 7 or 8 and I was a big Toni Kukoc fan when he was with the Bulls because my father was a basketball player and he used to play against those folks like Toni Kukoc and Petrovic at the time when it used to be Yugoslavia back then.”

He continued, “So he would play against some Serbian guys who made it in the NBA, and so I heard a lot of stories about Kukoc and how he was an all-around player being 6’11”, sharing the ball, playing at a high level, playing that great role with the Chicago Bulls.”

Saric’s father’s firsthand experiences allowed young Dario to learn about the incredible work ethic and talents of Drazen Petrovic, hailing from their hometown. These stories forged a deep connection to the “old school” era of basketball and the lasting legacy of European basketball legends.
