Cowboys latest injury update creates interesting trade opportunity

The Cowboys got some good news on the injury front, which could create a desire to move a surprisingly good player from their roster.

Dallas Cowboys fans got some really good news regarding Dak Prescott. He’s back as a practice participant for the first time since his thumb injury in Week 1 of the season. According to Mike McCarthy, he won’t be a starter until he is a full participant for at least a week, but we’re getting closer to that happening.

In the meantime, Cooper Rush has filled the role of quarterback perfectly. Dallas hasn’t lost since their Week 1 L to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and enters their Week 6 game against the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles just a game behind for the NFC East lead.

That’s… Not bad at all for a team without their starting QB. It’s not like it’s been a cakewalk, either. They had to beat the defending Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams, defending AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals, and the competitive New York Giants in those four games.

Fans will sarcastically debate whether or not Prescott should really start upon his return. That’s fun and silly, but while Rush has been great, he’s not QB1 when everyone is healthy.

There is an interesting debate that will be raised upon Prescott’s return, though.

Cowboys need to decide whether or not to trade Cooper Rush

Cooper Rush has boosted his trade stock over the last four weeks. Any team looking to upgrade their quarterback situation or add a solid backup to their team at the trade deadline will be calling the Cowboys first.

The Cowboys have a decision to make. Do they trust Prescott will be A) Healthy and B) Good for the rest of the year? Or do they decide its in their best interest to keep Rush on board as an insurance policy?

Or, do they seize the moment and send Rush out to capitalize on his momentary high trade value?

Jerry Jones has to at least listen to calls for Rush, but it may honestly be in the best interest of the team to keep him around. Obviously, you hope Prescott stays healthy the rest of this year, but he has played just 22 of the team’s last 38 regular season games.
