Chicago Bears misspelled David Montgomery’s name on his jersey

The Chicago Bears welcomed David Montgomery back in Week 5 but you wouldn’t have known that from looking at the name on the back of his jersey.

What’s in a name? For the Chicago Bears, major complications.

In what seems like a simple thing to get completely wrong, the Bears messed up the name of their star running back ahead of Sunday’s game in Minnesota. It wasn’t just a snafu in a pregame program or a misspelling on the video board — it was stitched onto the nameplate on the back of his jersey.

Montgomery was spotted in full uniform before the game during the Bears pregame workout, but there was something off. It wasn’t anything physical, rather Montgomery’s name was spelled wrong on the back of his uniform.

Perhaps nothing encapsulates being a Bears fan better than this.

The excitement of having one of the best offensive weapons back was immediately met with some seemingly simple thing going stupidly wrong.

It certainly seems as though the honeymoon with Justin Fields is over. Bears fans might not have universally turned on him yet, but the ire remains to be drawn by the offensive coaching staff. What was easy to blame on Matt Nagy last year — weird dump-off plays on third-and-long, inexplicably bad playcalling in key situations — remains despite the new coaching staff.

Nevertheless, Bears fans tried to see the light and remain positive:

Sometimes you just have to laugh and accept your fate. Bears fans have been doing it every year since 1985, and a misspelled name is the least of their offensive problems moving forward.
