Chelsea are Manchester United’s primary rivals in the race for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen – Man United News And Transfer News

Premier League rivals Chelsea are Manchester United’s main competitor in the transfer race for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen is on Erik ten Hag’s wishlist with the Dutch coach keen to bolster his attacking options.

Heading into the summer transfer window, it has been repeatedly indicated that a world-class goalscorer is at the top of United’s agenda.

The Red Devils are also keen on Harry Kane, who is reportedly the club’s number one target.

The Peoples Person relayed that if Kane proves unattainable, alternative options will be explored. The 20-time English champions are keeping tabs on Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani.

According to Nizaar Kinsella, United will have to ward off Chelsea to secure the services of Osimhen.

Kinsella conveys, “Chelsea are strong contenders to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer. The 24-year-old is aware of interest from the Blues, who regard him as a primary target as they pursue another physical forward.”

“They [Chelsea] believe the Nigeria international, who has scored 25 goals in 29 games this season, would allow them to compete with the firepower of Manchester City’s goal machine Erling Haaland.”

“Manchester United are also interested in Osimhen. They sounded out Osimhen at Lille, before he joined Napoli, but are also keen on Tottenham striker Harry Kane, who has just 16 months to run on his current contract.”

Chelsea’s pursuit of Osimhen is motivated by the London outfit’s struggles in front of goal.

The Blues have only managed 29 Premier League goals which is only more than seven sides in England’s top flight. All these seven sides are currently locked in a relegation battle.

Kinsella details that the biggest obstacle to overcome for both Chelsea and United is Napoli president Aurelio di Laurentiis who is a tough negotiator.

“Napoli are thought to be asking for a fee in the region of €100million (£88m) to €150m (£132m). Napoli’s model relies on selling at least one star every season.”

Despite Chelsea recently announcing losses to the tune of £121m and being on UEFA’s financial watchlist, Kinsella adds that they will not be deterred in their efforts to add a striker, defensive midfielder and a goalkeeper to their ranks.
