Chauncey Billups on Anfernee Simons: “He is All-Star potential”

The Trail Blazers are preparing for the inevitable departure of Damian Lillard who requested to be traded to Miami. Portland’s head coach Chauncey Billups is not too concerned with who will take over when the superstars is moved.

He sees Anfernee Simons becoming the leader of the team. According to Billups, the 24-year-old shooting guard is already close to being an All-Star. Getting more responsibilities next season could further elevate his game.

“We don’t know how the Dame situation is going to play out,” Billups said, via Marc J. Spears of Andscape. “But you got Anf Simons over here who I’ve also been pouring into the last couple of years. If you look at where he is at this point of his career, I think it will be a great opportunity. If it is that way, Scoot can learn from Anf similar to how Anf learned from Dame. So, I don’t think the urgency is there at all …

“[Simons] is All-Star potential, All-Star close already. There are some people that [Henderson] can learn from, which is great.”

Last season Simons averaged 21.1 points, 2.6 rebound and 4.1 assists in 35 minutes per game for Portland.
