The two players Manchester United are willing to offer for Frenkie de Jong

A fresh update on Manchester United’s pursuit of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has emerged.

Barca are understood to have paid around £77m to bring the midfielder to the Camp Nou on the back of a starring campaign, in which he helped Ajax reach the semi-finals of the Champions League back in 2019.

Since his move to Catalonia, though, de Jong has struggled to consistently showcase the abilities that made him such a desirable asset for Barcelona in the first place.

Not all of the blame can be put on the Dutchman for this, with Barcelona as a club having long been in the midst of something of a lull, with La Blaugrana now onto their 3rd permanent manager since de Jong joined the club.

Amid all of this upheaval, it was claimed back in November of 2021 that Barcelona had put Frenkie de Jong up for sale.

Such speculation had since died down. However, reports from Spain last week claimed that Erik ten Hag wants to bring De Jong to Manchester United to be the face of his Red Devils project from next season on.

Manchester United open to swap deal

Now, another update, this time from Spanish outlet Fichajes, has emerged regarding Man United and De Jong.

It is claimed that a swap deal could be on the cards, with United willing to allow Marcus Rashford and Alex Telles to be included in any deal for the midfielder.

Given Telles’ poor showings over the last several months and the fact United can call upon Brandon Williams to be their second choice left-back next season, letting Telles go does make sense.

However, whilst Rashford has not been at the races recently, he provides cover at both left-wing and up top – two areas United are pretty short in right now.

Mohamed Elneny sends public contract message to Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has, this weekend, sent a clear-as-day message to the powers that be on the red half of north London.

The future of Egyptian international Elneny has of course flown somewhat under the radar of late. This comes despite the 29-year-old being primed to join the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah in departing Arsenal as a free agent upon the expiration of his contract in the summer.

Evidently, though, if Elneny has his own way, then he will in fact not be calling time on his stint in Arsenal colours any time soon.

This comes with the midfielder, hotly tipped for a move to Turkey during the January transfer window, having confirmed that he remains hopeful of extending his stay with Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Speaking to journalist Mark Mann-Bryans on the back of the Gunners’ meeting with Manchester United, Elneny revealed that, should those in a position of power at the club reach out regarding a contract extension, he would show no hesitation in committing to as much:

Red Devils downed

The latest word on Elneny’s future of course comes fresh on the back of the former Basel star playing a key role for Arsenal once more on Saturday.

Amid Thomas Partey’s ongoing absence, for the 2nd time in the space of a week, Elneny was thrown in at the deep end, handed a starting berth alongside Granit Xhaka in the middle of the park for the club’s crunch Premier League showdown with Manchester United.

And, yet again, the experienced Egyptian went on to impress, keeping things ticking over in typically neat fashion en route to an eventual 3-1 triumph.

Elneny even bagged the assist for midfield partner Xhaka’s result-clinching 3rd, guiding Arsenal back clear of north London rivals Tottenham amid the tense ongoing battle for the Premier League’s final top-four berth.

Deebo Samuel breaks 49ers fans’ hearts at the club

Deebo Samuel is out there breaking San Francisco 49ers fans’ hearts everywhere.

If there was any sliver of hope over Deebo Samuel wanting to remain with the San Francisco 49ers, here he is completely crushing that notion while partying at the club.

You can smell the alcohol through the screen, but Samuel nixed the idea of him coming back in this video. People were celebrating like a reigning Heisman Trophy winner was coming back to school for his senior season. The camera quickly panned over to the man of the hour. He pretty much did on video what Julio Jones did over the phone breaking up with the Atlanta Falcons on Undisputed.

Samuel is in the final year of his 49ers’ rookie contract after being drafted out of South Carolina.

Deebo Samuel breaks San Francisco 49ers fans’ hearts everywhere in this video

There are a few components that have led to Samuel wanting out of San Francisco. Obviously, he wants a new contract, but his role as a wide receiver who can carry the ball out of the backfield has led to an interesting wrinkle in figure out how to pay him. His former offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is gone, and there is some belief that Samuel would want to play closer to home.

The Inman, South Carolina native could draw interest from teams like the Atlanta Falcons, the Carolina Panthers and even the New York Jets on the trade market. Atlanta and Carolina are within driving distance of his hometown. As far as Gang Green is concerned, the Jets are led by former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, so he has some connection to that staff over there.

While the 49ers have all the leverage in this situation, it is hard to see Samuel wanting to return to Santa Clara for his fourth NFL season. With the NFL Draft rapidly approaching, the 49ers will have to act swiftly if they want to receive compensation in the form of picks this year as opposed to next. Samuel may offer any number of teams great value, but this clock is about to strike midnight.

Though he may so want out of San Francisco, Samuel may not get traded until later this summer.

Le’Veon Bell uses Steelers experience to give Deebo Samuel some advice

Le’Veon Bell has chimed in on the Deebo Samuel drama with the San Francisco 49ers after he requested a trade.

Few people have forgotten about the beef between Le’Veon Bell and the Pittsburgh Steelers a few years ago. Could the same kind of situation be coming for Deebo Samuel and the San Francisco 49ers?

Earlier this week, Samuel requested a trade out of the Bay Area and now rumors are flying all over the place. Will he make his way to a new team, or could he even think about sitting out the campaign? If you ask Bell about this, he thinks Samuel needs to stand his ground.

https://mobile.twitter.com/LeVeonBell/status/1517154684418600960

Le’Veon Bell is showing Deebo Samuel support on social media

As you can see from that tweet, Bell is clearly referencing his issues with Pittsburgh for this situation with Samuel. However, Samuel’s production can’t be replaced by a ‘backup’, as the speedster has solidified himself as one of the most electric players out there, no question.

It doesn’t look like there’s any chance that the relationship between the two sides can be fixed, but San Francisco isn’t going to trade Samuel unless they get an offer that is head-turning. He won’t come cheap.

The front office and John Lynch understand Samuel’s value, which is why they’ll surely want multiple draft picks, including a first-rounder, for him. With the draft less than a week away, everyone will be waiting to see what happens with the wideout.

Bell will be paying close attention to this as well, as he wants San Francisco to do right by him. NFL fans should find out soon enough how this plays out for Samuel and the 49ers.

Chiefs could miss out on Tyreek Hill replacement if they don’t act now

With the NFL Draft right around the corner, the Kansas City Chiefs need to make a move to try and land Jameson Williams in the first round.

There’s going to be a completely different look for the Kansas City Chiefs next season and fans aren’t ready for life without Tyreek Hill. However, general manager Brett Veach would be wise to aggressively look at a trade to try and move up in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft.

Why? So the team can beat out the teams in front of them to select Alabama’s Jameson Williams. Williams suffered a torn ACL last season, but he’s ahead of schedule in his recovery. He’d be a perfect fit for the KC offense, but Veach needs to make a move in order to ensure the team can grab him.

https://mobile.twitter.com/Schultz_Report/status/1517899277065981953

The Chiefs must make a move to try and draft Jameson Williams

While some squads might have had some injury concerns on Williams, NFL insider Jordan Schultz is reporting that several teams are quite high on the speedy wideout and they see Williams as a total game-changer.

The former Alabama standout has the ability to spread the field and he’d no question be a fantastic fit for the Chiefs. The thought of Williams catching the ball from Patrick Mahomes brings a smile to plenty of people’s faces in Kansas City.

While that’s fun to think about, it won’t get done unless Veach works his magic and moves up in the draft. As things stand, Kansas City holds the No. 29 and No. 30 picks in the first round. Williams won’t be there when it’s time for the Chiefs to make a call. If Veach wants Williams in town, he better get on the horn as soon as possible.

West Ham target Everton defender for summer swoop if they are relegated

West Ham will look to add Everton and England defender Michael Keane to their squad should the Toffees find themselves relegated from the Premier League this season, with David Moyes thought to be a fan of the experienced defender.

The Hammers have been left short in central defence this season despite adding Kurt Zouma to their side in the summer. All of Zouma, Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop have sustained season-ending injuries, meaning that they head into the home stretch of the season with Craig Dawson their only recognised centre back.

And, as per the Daily Star, the London club would take steps to prevent this happening again by looking to prise Keane away from Everton for a cut price should the Toffees find themselves in a sticky patch financially following relegation.

Michael Keane of Everton is reportedly on West Ham’s radar come the summer. (Photo by Sebastian Frej/MB Media/Getty Images).

The report claims that the Hammers value Keane, who has 12 England caps to his name, at around £20 million, though with Everton’s financial woes it is unclear just how much he would actually cost.

‘He [Moyes] regards Keane, who would cost around £20m, as the right man to add much-needed cover at the back for the Europa League semi-finalists’.

West Ham in contention for European glory

West Ham and David Moyes could lift a first major European Trophy since 1964/65 should they prevail in their semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt, which would set up a final against either RB Leipzig or Rangers.

It would mark a major transformation, which has seen the Hammers going from just avoiding relegation in 2019-20 to finishing in the European places for next season alongside a run in Europe of their own this campaign.

And, while question marks remain over the long term future of Declan Rice, they are certainly heading in the right direction.

Matthew Stafford returned to Detroit to see Miguel Cabrera’s 3,000th hit

Matthew Stafford was at Comerica Park to root on Miguel Cabrera for his 3,000th hit.

Super Bowl champion quarterback Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams was at Comerica Park in person to see Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera get career hit No. 3,000.

Prior to this past NFL season, Stafford had spent his entire professional career out of Georgia quarterbacking the Detroit Lions. Though he was destined to be a franchise quarterback since growing up in Highland Park, Texas, Stafford is a baseball fan through and through. He respects the game for the lessons you can apply to life in dealing with failure and overcoming adversity.

Here he is in the Tigers broadcasting booth talking about the big moment for Detroit baseball.

Matthew Stafford watches Miguel Cabrera get to 3,000 hits at Comerica Park

While Stafford and Cabrera became champions elsewhere, they will always have that Detroit connection to tie them together. For years, they have been ambassadors to all things Detroit sports. Though the city has not had a great go of it recently on the professional side of things, perhaps Motor City Dan Campbell, Cade Cunningham and The Yzerplan can save this metropolis?

As Cabrera’s illustrious career is clearly winding down, Stafford has gotten a second wind in the latter third of his by switching NFC allegiances. Though he is not anything close to the first-ballot lock Cabrera is, the 30-something gunslinger still has time to build on a football legacy worthy of being on display forever in Canton. Will Stafford get his bronze bust like Cabrera gets his plaque?

Ultimately, there are not two athletes in Detroit who have meant as much to the city in the last decade and change than Cabrera and Stafford. Though neither brought the city a championship, few would ever argue that they were not champions at heart. While they got their rings in Miami and in Los Angeles, it is hard to think about Detroit spots in the 2010s and not think of these two.

It was awesome to see Cabrera get to 3,000 and having Stafford in attendance was even better.

Tomiyasu sends message to Arsenal fans after comeback vs Man United

Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu has taken to social media on Saturday evening, to send a message of appreciation to the club’s fanbase.

On the back of a lengthy, and at times inexplicable spell on the sidelines, Japanese international Tomiyasu, of course, marked his return to action versus Manchester United earlier today.

Late in proceedings at the Emirates, and with the Gunners in firm control, Mikel Arteta opted to introduced the summer addition to his squad off the bench, in place of stand-in right-back Cedric Soares.

And the talented stopper’s comeback, unsurprisingly, was greeted with a warm round of cheers and applause on the part of the vast majority of those in attendance in north London.

Taking to his personal Instagram account late on Saturday night, Tomiyasu, in turn, was keen to reach out to the Arsenal faithful, thanking all involved for their ‘warm welcome’:

“I’m so so happy to be back on the pitch. Thank you very much for your warm welcome today!!! Love Arsenal”

Xhaka rounds out the scoring

Turning attentions back towards the outcome itself, as alluded to above, it was Arsenal who ultimately emerged on the right side of the result at the Emirates this afternoon.

Goals on the part of all of Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka proved enough to guide the day’s hosts to a 3-1 triumph in north London.

Tottenham’s ensuing stalemate with Brentford, meanwhile, means that Arsenal have now positioned themselves firmly in the driver’s seat for the Premier League’s final top-four berth, sitting two points clear of their capital rivals, and a further four ahead of Manchester United.

Will the Chiefs trade up in NFL Draft? Brett Veach reveals Kansas City’s plans

It’s been quite the offseason for a team with the longest current streak of NFL playoff appearances. The Kansas City Chiefs could be busy during the draft.

The reigning AFC West champions have used only two first-round selections the past six years dating back to 2016. They would be quarterback Patrick Mahomes in 2017 and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in 2020. They have picked exactly six players in each of the past five drafts.

But now the Kansas City Chiefs, due mainly to a trade that saw them send six-time Pro Bowler Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, have a dozen selections in the 2022 NFL Draft. That includes two in the first-, second-, third- and fourth rounds. So will general manager Brett Veach be “movin’ on up” come next weekend?

Chiefs probably won’t trade up in the 2022 NFL Draft, but never say never

“I don’t probably expect a huge jump up unless something unforeseen happens…,” explained the Chiefs’ executive (via Devon Clements of Heavy.com). “But we’ll be flexible and let the board talk to us.”

It was a sour ending to a 2021 showing that saw the club win a sixth consecutive division title despite a 3-4 start. Andy Reid’s squad squandered a 21-3 second-quarter lead in the AFC Championship Game loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Along with Hill, there have been a lot of changes to the roster. And the focus now is on next week at Las Vegas.

“I think there’s a lot of similarities to the (2021) draft,” said Veach on Friday. “I think we have right around 16 to 18 names on our front board as first-round picks. Picking at 29 and 30, our odds of maybe one of those guys falling isn’t great, but at the same time, we probably aren’t factoring in quarterbacks that most teams do. I’m sure there are quarterbacks worthy of a first-round grade, we’re just obviously not going in that direction.”

The Chiefs have hosted the AFC title game four consecutive years but only have one Lombardi Trophy to show for it. The departures this offseason were notable, especially at wide receiver with Hill, Byron Pringle (Bears) and Demarcus Robinson (Raiders) all elsewhere. But this is a franchise that has posted nine straight winning seasons and made eight playoff appearances since 2013. And a team to keep an eye for the final three days of April.

Joe Burrow helping recruit 5-star QB to LSU for Brian Kelly (Photo)

Joe Burrow met five-star quarterback Dante Moore during his visit to the LSU football program.

Former LSU football star and Cincinnati Bengals starting quarterback Joe Burrow is doing his part to help the Bayou Bengals land five-star Dante Moore‘s commitment.

Burrow was present during Moore’s official visit to LSU this weekend. While it is a new regime in Baton Rouge with Brian Kelly taking over for Ed Orgeron, there may not be a better ambassador for all things LSU football these days than the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner. As with Moore, Burrow grew up in Big Ten country. The belief is he will help bring the five-star down to the SEC.

Here is a photo of Burrow and Moore during the latter’s official visit to Baton Rouge this weekend.

Joe Burrow meets Dante Moore: Who is the five-star quarterback prospect?

According to the 247Sports Composite, Moore is the No. 5 player nationally, the No. 3 quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class and the No. 1 overall player from Michigan. The Detroit native has 40 official offers, but is looking hard at LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon and Penn State. While he has no leader at this time, he has two official visits set: LSU this weekend and Oregon on April 29.

Though it would make a ton of sense for the Detroit native to stay in the midwestern footprint, both LSU and Oregon have a real shot at landing him. Dan Lanning may be an ace recruiter taking over in Eugene, but Kelly’s proven track record previously signifies he will get things turned around in a hurry in Baton Rouge. This really comes down to what conference Moore wants to play ball in.

While there is no wrong choice among the quintet he favors, it will be hard to top the home atmosphere of playing night games in Death Valley. Though LSU is one of the strongest pillars of SEC football, the Tigers are not afraid to recruit players and hire head coaches who hail from outside of their geographical stronghold. Ultimately, the Tigers care about winning above all.

Moore may sign elsewhere, but having Burrow show up to his LSU official visit is a huge deal.
