The Memphis Grizzlies rallied again past the Anthony Edwards-led Minnesota Timberwolves 114-106 on Friday night to reach the 2nd round.

“Physically, mentally, this series was a battle,” said a visibly drained Ja Morant, who went 4 for 14 from the field and had 17 points and 11 assists. “Obviously, the wins were pretty ugly outside of Game 2, but we got it done.”

Miami Dolphins NFL draft picks 2022: Analysis for every selection – NFL Nation

MIAMI — The 2022 NFL draft is being held through Saturday and every Miami Dolphins draft pick will be analyzed here.

The draft will be held in Las Vegas on the strip in the area adjacent to Caesars Forum two years after it was initially scheduled. The 2020 NFL draft was turned into a virtual event because of COVID-19.

Here’s a pick-by-pick look at how each player Miami has selected will fit.

Round 3, No. 102 overall: Channing Tindall, ILB, Georgia

My take: The Dolphins brought their entire corps of inside linebackers back this offseason, but it’s still a thin group overall that could use a sideline-to-sideline defender. Enter: Tindall. The former Bulldog is one of the fastest linebackers in this draft and should contribute quickly. Especially in a division that features one of the most dynamic players in the NFL in Bills QB Josh Allen, it was critical for the Dolphins to add as much speed as possible to the middle of their defense.

What’s next: The wait for the Dolphins’ second pick of this year’s draft won’t take as long as the first — they pick again at No. 125 overall. From there, they only have two remaining picks, both in the seventh round (Nos. 224 and 227). Miami doesn’t have any glaring needs, but could stand to add depth to its interior offensive and defensive lines. But considering the state of its roster, Miami is in a position to take the best player available.

Matt Corral going to Carolina as Baker Mayfield trade talks stall

Matt Corral is joining the Carolina Panthers as trade talks for Baker Mayfield have apparently stalled between the Panthers and the Cleveland Browns.

Instead of going out of their way to get Baker Mayfield in a trade from the Cleveland Browns, the Carolina Panthers have chosen to go out and get Matt Corral of the Ole Miss Rebels.

Earlier Friday evening, the Panthers were apparently pretty interested in going after Mayfield, despite objections from some.

However, despite that reported interest in the Browns’ quarterback, Carolina made the choice to go out and get Corral, who played pretty well while with the Rebels in Oxford.

With the 94th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft (the 30th pick of the third round), the Panthers picked Corral. So, it seems unlikely that Mayfield will end up with the Panthers unless something truly interesting happens.

2022 NFL Draft: Carolina Panthers pick Matt Corral as trade talks with Cleveland Browns for Baker Mayfield have stalled

Corral spent four seasons with Ole Miss from 2018 to 2021 and he saw quite a bit of change in the Rebels over that timeframe. The Rebels went from losing the Egg Bowl in both 2018 and 2019 to hiring Lane Kiffin and subsequently becoming a pretty exciting team to watch. And it should absolutely be noted that Corral was a huge part of Kiffin’s quick success in Oxford.

Corral helped the Rebels go 5-5 in 2020 and then improve to 10-3 in 2021. During those two seasons, Corral completed 69.2 percent of his passes for 6,686 yards and 49 touchdowns against 19 interceptions. On the ground, Corral added 1,120 rushing yards and 15 more scores off of 264 carries during those 23 games.

It’s not entirely clear how good Ole Miss will be next season without Corral as he was a fascinating quarterback to keep up with during the past few seasons. He definitely was a huge reason for the Rebels’ success and it was shocking for many Ole Miss fans to see him fall to the third round.

Miami Heat frequently mentioned as a likely team to gain Donovan Mitchell

If he becomes available in the trade market this offseason, Donovan Mitchell might find himself taking his own talents to South Beach.

Per Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Miami Heat has been frequently mentioned as a potential landing spot for the Utah Jazz star once traded.

And the factor for the Heat to snatch the All-star guard is Dwyane Wade, their greatest player in franchise history who is now the Jazz’ minority owner.

“Miami has been mentioned by league sources as a smart landing spot for Mitchell with [Dwyane] Wade’s strong connections to his beloved heat.

With that, the Heat looks poised to join the New York Knicks who are initially in the hunt to claim Mitchell. Some key officials of the Knicks like William Wesley and Allan Houston were seen spectating in some of Utah’s first-round games against the Dallas Mavericks, sparking murmurs with regards to their given intention.

Once Miami catches Mitchell, their core and chances to claim the championship will undeniably get stronger. The ball club remains as one of the East’ title heavyweights which features a gritty culture and immense firepower.

With the Jazz now gone in the playoffs, Mitchell’s future in Salt Lake City continues to be a talk in the association. As such, both him and the franchise are projected to face a bold offseason.

EUROLEAGUE: Dwayne Bacon’s jumper forces game 5 in Piraeus

Photo: EuroLeague Basketball

Monaco came back to win the game 78-77 and force game 5 next week in Pireaus. Dwayne Bacon scored a game-high 21 points including the winning jumper to lead AS Monaco.

This result tied the series 2-2. Everything is going to be decided in Greece in front of a Pireaus crowd.

Mike James finished the game with 18 points and six rebounds, while his former teammate on the Brooklyn Nets Kevin Durant was watching him from the courtside seats.

“We were just trying to fight,” James said. “Before the game, me and [Dwayne] Bacon talked, and we were just like: If we are gonna go down, we are gonna go down swinging. Talked to the whole team, we wanted to show our best face and come out here fight for what we felt like we deserve. So, I knew it was gonna be a good series before we started, but it is turning out to be even better than I thought.”

Kostas Sloukas, who had hit the go-ahead 3-pointer for the 76 – 77, took a tough shot to win the game for Olympiacos but missed at the buzzer after going 3-3 from beyond the arc. He finished with 19 points while Sasha Vezenkov posted 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Olympiacos.

“We have to  analyze the game,” Bartzokas said. “It was a tough game, tough loss for us. We had an opportunity to win the game but we missed three crucial offenses at the end. We are going to get back in the next game in Piraeus.”

Bruno Guimaraes calls ex-Lyon teammate Paqueta to Newcastle

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has revealed his hope that a close friend and former teammate could some day join him in England’s northeast.

Brazilian international Guimaraes, of course, made the move to St. James’ Park during the January transfer window.

And, after something of a slow start to life in Newcastle’s colours, the 24-year-old has since exploded into life over recent weeks.

Three goals and an assist across his last four appearances have proven central to Eddie Howe’s troops getting their campaign firmly back on track, to climb to the dizzying heights of the top half of the Premier League table.

Guimaraes’ influence, though, in truth runs so much deeper, with the South American having looked the standout performer almost every time he has stepped foot on the pitch over the course of the last month.

In turn, it will no doubt excite the Newcastle faithful to hear of their new cult hero calling for a one-time midfield partner in crime to join him on Tyneside at some point in the near future.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN in his native Brazil on Friday, Guimaraes was drawn on recent speculation that the transfer team at St. James’ are readying a fresh raid on Olympique Lyonnais, this time round for Lucas Paqueta.

Gifted technician Paqueta has proven something of a standout performer amid a difficult campaign for Lyon, racking up ten goals and seven assists from his attacking midfield berth.

And, evidently, Guimaraes, who spent the opening half of the season lining out alongside his fellow countryman at the Groupama Stadium, is of the opinion that Paqueta would prove an excellent addition to Newcastle’s ranks.

“It’d be my dream. Paqueta is my best friend,” the Magpies standout began.

“We had a relationship, not only on the field, but we lived together all the time outside. Our wives together too. It was a brotherly relationship. We still talk every day. It would be really cool if he could come here, but I can’t do this [recruitment] job [alone].”

‘In the clouds’

From here, Guimaraes was also keen to discuss his impressive start to life in the Premier League, with a particular emphasis on the warm welcome provided by Newcastle’s supporters.

“Few clubs in England have a fanbase like Newcastle”, the midfielder continued.

“Playing against us at home is very difficult. I honestly didn’t expect so much and so fast.

“Where I go is crazy, madness, in a restaurant, in the stadium. I win a free-kick and the crowd goes ‘Bruno, Bruno’, so it’s something I hadn’t experienced yet.

“I was a great idol at Athletico, I think it’s the same level here. I’m in the clouds.”

Barcelona ready to target Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku for summer transfer

A triumphant return to west London looks set to be short-lived when it comes to Belgian international striker Romelu Lukaku, as the Chelsea frontman appears to be primed for a guaranteed exit from Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chelsea shelled out just shy of £100-million to bring the Antwerp-native back to the Premier League after he never got a real chance at the club before going on to prove himself at West Brom, Everton, and Inter Milan, despite a hot and cold two years with Manchester United.

But for the price that the Blues paid to bank on his goalscoring expertise helping the club push for Premier League honors this season, both parties have accepted that a partnership will be short-lived, and La Liga giants Barcelona could turn to Lukaku to solve their own issues at center-forward starting in the summer.

According to reports in Marca (cited by Football365), Lukaku has ‘entered the equation’ for Barcelona as the Catalan outfit prepare to source a third option for recruitment as their top two summer targets look to be out of reach.

Previously interested in Bundesliga goal machines Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski, Barça suffered a blow in both pursuits as the former is all but guaranteed to wind up at the Etihad this summer to join forces with Pep Guardiola and company, while any deal for Lewandowski that could potentially be struck is viewed as ‘complicated’ even though the Polish star was tipped as being interested in the destination.

The fact that Lukaku is prepared to depart Chelsea makes his potential acquisition that much easier for Barcelona, though the Belgian star is said to be attracting interest from a few clubs around Europe.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, an exit for Lukaku could pile the pressure on boss Thomas Tuchel who is already set to lose Antonio Rüdiger to Real Madrid, with Andreas Christensen (in line to join Barcelona) another gap to fill for the club. Not only that, but the Blues also may have to fend off interest – again from Madrid – in star right-back and England international Reece James.

The Cobham academy product has been a leading light for Chelsea this season and put in another outstanding performance against Manchester United in midweek. Should James draw the attention of arguably the biggest club on the planet, the loss of Romelu Lukaku in the summer may just be a drop in the bucket.

Cole Palmer shines with classy brace as Man City U23s bag seven

Footage of Manchester City’s Academy outfit running riot during a meeting with Everton has come to the fore on Friday.

For those not aware, the Sky Blues’ latest crop of up-and-coming talent clinched fresh glory last weekend, sealing a 2nd successive Premier League 2 crown courtesy of a 3-1 win at Elland Road.

Brian Barry-Murphy’s troops, in turn, returned to action earlier this evening, aware that they had little to play for in a meeting with relegation-battling Everton.

City’s stars, though, certainly didn’t allow what could have been viewed as a lack of motivation to affect their eventual performance on Friday.

Instead, the Etihad hosts absolutely ran riot, to emerge on the right side of a head-turning 7-0 scoreline.

The highly-regarded Cole Palmer unsurprisingly prove central, bagging a brace, including a stunning set-piece strike, to guide the Citizens into a 3-goal advantage inside the 40-minute mark.

And the onslaught only continued across the 2nd-half, as Kayky, Liam Delap (2) and Oscar Bobb added to Rico Lewis’ earlier effort, to round out another stellar night’s work on the part of the Premier League 2 champions:

Peacocks clash

Turning attentions back towards the senior setup on the blue half of Manchester, Pep Guardiola’s troops will of course be hopeful of taking their own fresh step towards silverware this weekend.

Sitting a point clear of Liverpool at the Premier League’s summit, City are set to make the trip to Yorkshire for a meeting with Jesse Marsch’s resolute Leeds United.

The champions, though, could actually have slipped to 2nd in the table by the time kick-off rolls around at Elland Road, with Liverpool primed to feature in Saturday’s lunch-time kick-off, at St. James’ Park.
