Skip Bayless thinks Nets should talk Kevin Durant out of trade request

Kevin Durant reportedly requested a trade from the Nets shaking the franchise as it is about to lose its two superstars with Kyrie Irving likely getting traded to the Lakers.

Sports analyst Skip Bayless is of the opinion that Brooklyn should talk to KD and try to convince him to stay with the team and have a chance to win a championship.

“If I ran the Nets, I’d tell Kevin Durant, “You have 4 years left on your contract. You’re playing for the Nets next year, with Kyrie and Ben Simmons. We’re going to win it all.” If KD wanted a different coach, fine. But why give up KD & Kyrie and pretty much start over? Just me,” Bayless tweeted.

LeBron James wants Kyrie Irving with the Lakers ‘more than anyone’

The Lakers and the Nets are reportedly looking for a mutually acceptable trade that would send Kyrie Irving to Los Angeles. The 30-year-old star point guard has full backing of LeBron James whose voice is always heard when roster construction is concerned.

He was teammates with Irving for four years in Cleveland and won a championship together in 2016. Although there were some tensions between the two players, they have reportedly worked out their differences and are mutually interested in joining forces again.

Via Marc Stein:

“I know Irving has been in Los Angeles this week, but that’s not the source of my confidence. It stems from repeated rumbles in circulation that LeBron James is rooting hard for Irving’s addition to the roster.

“James, I’m told, wants to see Irving in Lakerland more than anyone. What other team, furthermore, has a LeBron-sized personality with the experience to cope with all the chaos that comes with adding Kyrie? James, remember, has often thrived in chaos.”

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jaylon Ferguson’s cause of death revealed

The circumstances behind the tragic death of Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jaylon Ferguson have been revealed by the medical examiner.

Ravens linebacker Jaylon Ferguson passed away in June at the age of 26, leaving behind three children and a fiancée. Sadly, we now know the cause of his death was a drug overdose.

An autopsy determined that the combined effects of fentanyl and cocaine were responsible for Ferguson’s death.

According to the Baltimore Banner, Ferguson had been battling depression while dealing with the death of his grandmother and a fire at his home.

His death was investigated as “questionable” by police. It has now been classified as an accident.

Ravens linebacker Jaylon Ferguson’s cause of death was drug-related

Fentanyl has been at the root of many high-profile overdoses in recent years as it is increasingly cut into cocaine. The results of mixing the two together can be deadly given the high overdose risk the drug exhibits when combined with others.

Ferguson, who was nicknamed “sack daddy,” was drafted by the Ravens out of Louisiana Tech in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He started nine games as a rookie in 2019, then took on more of a rotational and special teams role in 2020 and 2021. He had 67 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two pass deflections and two fumble recoveries in his career.

He was set to enter the fourth and final year of his rookie contract this year.

Before making it to the NFL, Ferguson was the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year. He had 17.5 sacks as a senior in college.

Over the weekend, friends and family gathered in Louisiana for a celebration of his life, which ended far too soon.

Ferguson’s death was followed by the passing of former Ravens defensive lineman Tony Siragusa, making for a sad stretch for the Baltimore community.

Joao Virginia ready to battle Pickford for Everton no.1 spot

Everton goalkeeper Joao Virginia has, on Sunday, spoken out regarding his situation at the club, and prospects for the season ahead.

For those not aware, shot-stopper Virginia has been on the books on the blue half of Merseyside since all the way back in 2018.

To this point, though, the 22-year-old has managed just a solitary league appearance. Faced with the prospect of another season watching on from the sidelines last time out, Virginia, in turn, was farmed out on loan last summer, returning to his home country of Portugal with Sporting CP.

The ex-U21 international, though, endured an equally underwhelming stint at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Sitting behind Antonio Adan in the pecking order between the posts in Lisbon, Virginia was condemned to appearances solely in cup competition, en route to a paltry 8 outings across the campaign’s entirety.

His difficult stint in Portugal, though, has evidently not dented the shot-stopper’s confidence too badly.

This comes with Virginia, as alluded to above, having today provided an insight into his current prospects at Goodison Park.

Speaking in an interview with Goal, the Faro native was first drawn on his place in Everton’s setup, ahead of being afforded the chance to impress Toffees boss Frank Lampard in pre-season training this coming week.

“Things will be resolved in pre-season. Everton is like a family to me, so whatever they want me to do, I will do,” Virginia responded.

“Whatever happens I will be there fighting to be that No.1. I know that I am ready to play games and I think I have shown that, especially in the last two years.”

From here, the goalkeeper was then pressed on the specific challenge of competing with current Toffees no.1 Jordan Pickford for game-time.

And Virginia did not at all shy away from the prospect, revealing his belief that he is ‘at the same level’ as England’s first-choice, before assuring that he is ‘more than capable’ of carving out game-time on Merseyside this coming season:

“I have to believe in my own ability first and foremost, and I do.

“I see it every day in training, I feel I am at the same level and I don’t see any reason to believe otherwise. I work hard, I dedicate myself and I know I’m more than capable of doing it.”

Leicester’s Youri Tielemans ‘fully sold’ on Arsenal switch

A fresh insight into the ongoing saga surrounding the future of Leicester City star Youri Tielemans has, on Sunday, been provided.

The name of Belgian international Tielemans has, of course, taken its place front and centre in the headlines across the summer to date.

This comes with the midfield all-rounder, ahead of the expiration of his Leicester contract in 12 months’ time, having been hotly tipped to take his talents to one of the heavyweights of the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were initially viewed as the widespread favourites to strike a deal, with it at one point having been deemed as a mere formality that Tielemans would ultimately opt to take his talents to the red half of north London.

Recent weeks, though, have seen the Gunners’ interest cool, as the transfer team at the Emirates instead focused their attentions on the likes of Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Jesus.

Manchester United and Newcastle United, in turn, were afforded the opportunity to enter the fray, giving rise to something of a tug-of-war when it comes to Tielemans’ signature.

If the latest word stemming from the media on Sunday is anything to go by, though, then Arsenal maintain a sizable lead in the race for the 25-year-old.

As per transfer journalist Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, Tielemans is ‘fully sold’ on the prospect of a Gunners switch.

Should a rival suitor step up their efforts to land the Belgian, it is therefore understood that a deal would only be possible in the case of Mikel Arteta and co. essentially giving their blessing for Tielemans to head elsewhere.
