Aerial Powers scores Career High of 32 points against the Las Vegas Aces

Aerial Powers scored a career-high 32 points to lead Minnesota’s 102-71 shelling against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday night.

Powers started the game off strong by scoring 19 points in the first half giving Minnesota the edge that handed the Lynx a 20-point lead. Entering the third quarter, Powers kept the pressure as she helped lead Lynx going with a 16-6 run.

Powers didn’t stop there; she kept pushing, finishing the game with six rebounds (two offensive boards) and four assists. It was evident that Power’s teammates wanted the dub just as bad as her. Moriah Jefferson and Rachel Banham scored 13 points each, and Sylvia Fowles scored eight points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks.

The Lynx’s worked together to ensure a season-high scoring total. Shooting 50 percent from the field, hitting 12-3 pointers, and outrebounded the Aces 53-25. While this game was season-high for the Lynx, it was the opposite for the Aces.

The Aces couldn’t seem to set the court on fire offensively against the Lynx and marked a season-low of scoring. The Aces are one of the top teams this WNBA season and came into the game averaging 89.9 points per game, League-leading, but the Aces couldn’t seem to find their rhythm.

“We’ve had our struggles,” Powers explains, “But now we’re starting to turn a corner. To beat a team like that, the way we did. It shows you where our team can go,” Powers said.

Brittney Griner to Biden: “I’m Terrified I Might Be Here Forever”

Brittney Griner sent a handwritten letter to President Joe Biden on Monday pleading for the POTUS to not forget about her and the other American detainees in Russia.

“As I sit here in a Russian prison, alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any accomplishments, I’m terrified I might be here forever,” Griner, who’s been detained in Russia since February for possession of cannabis oil, wrote in an excerpt from the letter shared with the media.

“I realize you are dealing with so much,” she wrote. “But please don’t forget about me and the other American detainees. Please do all you can to bring us home.”

Griner wrote that freedom means “something completely different this year,” as she was forced to spend the Fourth of July in custody. Griner’s trial began last week, and a Russian judge ordered her to remain in custody throughout the trial.

A White House spokesperson did not confirm or deny that Biden had received the letter but provided the New York Times with a statement from National Security Council spokeswoman Adriene Watson.

“President Biden has been clear about the need to see all U.S. nationals who are held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad released, including Brittney Griner. The U.S. government continues to work aggressively — using every available means — to bring her home,” Watson said in a statement to the Times.

She went on to say that Biden’s team is in “regular contact” with Griner’s family.

But Griner’s wife Cherelle appeared on “CBS This Morning” on Tuesday, claiming the family has not yet received a reply from Biden. She called the lack of communication “very disheartening.”

“It kills me every time that you know when I have to write her, and she’s asking, ‘Have you met with them yet?’ And I have to say no — I’m sure she is like, ‘I’m going to write him and ask now because my family has tried to no avail, so I’m going to do it myself,’” Cherelle said.

Brittney’s trial began on Friday, and the eight-time All-Star faces up to 10 years in a penal colony if she is convicted.

The 22-year-old was full of praise for the Dutchman, stating:

“Mr Ten Hag is a very good coach and also a warm person, so I had a good conversation with him and I have a very good connection with him,” Malacia told De Telegraaf. “That’s important, because if all goes well we’ll be working together for many years.

“I’m looking forward to that, because I think I can learn a lot from him. He has a record for improving players individually, as long as they are prepared to work hard.”

On leaving Feyenoord, the club he has spent all of his career with so far, Malacia added: “My team-mates at Feyenoord were very sad because I played together with some for so long and we really built a bond. Everyone wished me the best and I will always keep in touch with a lot of those guys.

“Feyenoord is my club – and it always will be. I am a boy of the club and of the city, so yes Feyenoord is my home and is forever in my heart.”

REPORT: LiAngelo Ball Could Miss Summer League Due to COVID-19 Protocols

LiAngelo Ball’s status on Charlotte’s Summer League roster is in doubt after he entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols on Monday, per Schuyler Callihan of Sports Illustrated.

The Hornets haven’t made an announcement regarding Ball’s status or if they expect him to clear the League’s protocols before Summer League starts on Friday with a game against the Pacers on ESPN2.

Ball last played for Charlotte’s G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm, where he averaged 4.6 points and 1.1 rebounds per game in 28 games last season.

1 player from each division rival fans would love to steal

Marlon Humphrey (Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images)

The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering a new era for the franchise but would love to steal these stars from the Browns, Bengals and Ravens.

Following the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger this offseason, it’s a new dawn for the Pittsburgh Steelers. With a future Hall-of-Fame quarterback hanging up his cleats, that brings uncertainty to a franchise moving forward.

Pittsburgh certainly hopes they’ve found their heir apparent to Big Ben as they used their first-round pick in this year’s draft on Kenny Pickett. Moreover, the team has a slew of weapons on offense with the likes of Najee Harris, Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool, among others, to go with the T.J. Watt-led defense that remains dominant.

With that said, this is a team still mired in uncertainty heading into the 2022 season and that plays in a division featuring three teams that all have legitimate playoff aspirations. But what if the Steelers were able to poach talent from their AFC North rivals to help their cause?

Looking at the Ravens, Bengals and Browns, these are the players who the Steelers and fans would gladly watch play their home games at Heinz Field if that were possible because of how they’d help the team now and in the future.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Stealing one player from every AFC North rival team

Marlon Humphrey would give Steelers the cornerback they’ve been lacking

Though this is a team that, if they want to make the playoffs this season, will have to find the bulk of their success on the defensive side of the ball, the one weakness for that unit is undeniably in the secondary. Minkah Fitzpatrick is a bonafide star at safety while the likes of Cameron Sutton, Levi Wallace and Ahkello Witherspoon are passable at cornerback.

Despite that, it’s abundantly clear that this defense lacks a true playmaker at corner and that’s something that can be a problem in the modern NFL. It’s also a problem that Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey would provide an immediate solution to if he were suiting up in the black and gold.

If you look at the advanced numbers, Humphrey has been somewhat up and down throughout his career and the 2021 campaign was on the lower end as he was just the 41st-highest-graded cornerback according to PFF last season. Yet, he was 12th in the NFL in that regard in the 2020 season.

At his best, though, Humphrey has proven to be a versatile playmaker who holds up well both against the pass and the run and has the ability to cover a multitude of different types of receivers. Putting him in the secondary with Fitzpatrick would make for a superstar duo that could help make the Steelers defense elite at just about every level.

Why new signing Richarlison will miss Tottenham’s Premier League 22/23 opener

Richarlison will be absent for new side Tottenham’s opening Premier League clash of the new season against Southampton, as he is set to receive a one-match ban from the FA for launching a flare into the crowd during his final games at Everton.

During Everton’s crucial 1-0 win over Chelsea, which proved key to their survival in the Premier League, the Brazilian striker threw a blue flare that landed onto the pitch back into the crowd from where it came, provoking outcry on social media.

And, while the incident was to be investigated at the end of the season due to its proximity to the final day, it has now proved to be costly. The FA, according to the Mail, are set to hand the Brazilian a one-game ban for his antics, which will rule him out of the opening game of the Premier League season.

It means that Tottenham boss Antonio Conte will be able to call on his £60m signing when his side takes on Southampton on Saturday 6th August, leaving him with the same options that he ended last season for their first home encounter of the season.

More to come from Spurs

Richarlison became Tottenham’s 5th signing of the summer, but is unlikely to be their last.

Both Barcelona man Clement Lenglet and Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence are thought to be on their way to north London this summer, while they remain on the hunt for another defender and have reportedly enquired over yet another forward in the form of Memphis Depay.

There remains plenty for Conte to do in order to get the squad shaped as he would like before the end of the transfer window.

Kyrie Irving – Russell Westbrook swap would include more than 2 teams, per report

Photo: Associated Press

If Kyrie Irving gets traded to the Lakers, it is thought that the package made by Los Angeles would include Russell Westbrook. According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, such deal would not be limited to just the Nets and the Lakers and more teams would be involved.

He also made a point that the purple and gold have some leverage in negotiations due to the fact that there isn’t much interest in Irving from other NBA teams.
