Celtics President Brad Stevens has expressed optimism about ongoing contract extension discussions with star player Jaylen Brown. While Stevens couldn’t provide specific details, he emphasized the Celtics’ desire to keep Brown with the team for the long term.

“We want Jaylen to be here for a long, long time, and we’ve made that clear,” Stevens stated, according to Brian Robb of masslive.com. “I feel optimistic.”

There is an expectation that the Celtics and Brown will eventually reach an agreement on a super max extension, which would extend his contract by six years and eliminate trade speculations, at least for the upcoming season. However, the exact terms of the deal are still being finalized, and NBA insider Brian Windhorst has described the negotiations as fragile.

Brown’s eligibility for the super max extension was triggered by his All-NBA Second Team selection. The Celtics and Brown’s representatives have been discussing the extension’s details during the NBA Summer League, with a focus on managing the team’s future salary cap implications.

While the timing of the agreement has been postponed, it is clear that both the Celtics and Brown are motivated to continue their partnership. The delay may be attributed to the restriction on trading Brown until one year after the extension is signed.
