Bologna boss Thiago Motta eyeing abroad move over Juventus job amid Man United links – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have received a big boost in their efforts to land one of their top managerial targets – Bologna boss Thiago Motta.

Motta has previously been mentioned as one of the candidates being considered by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS to replace Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout.

Ten Hag has overseen a very disappointing and underwhelming season and as it stands, it seems like his future at United is hanging in the balance.

It’s believed that Ratcliffe and INEOS are open to parting ways with the Dutchman and making a managerial change. Alongside Motta, United have also been linked with other top coaches including Julian Nagelsmann, Gareth Southgate, Zinedine Zidane, Graham Potter, Thomas Frank, Gary O’Neil, Kieran McKenna, Roberto De Zerbi, Ruben Amorim and Carlo Ancelotti.

Juventus are also admirers of Motta and it was mentioned that the Serie A giants are keen on luring him to Turin as current manager Massimiliano Allegri is set to leave at the end of the campaign.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person suggested that Motta already has a principle agreement in place with the Old Lady.

However, an update provided by journalist Rudy Galetti has given a completely different indication.

Galetti acknowledges the heavy interest in Motta both from within Italy and abroad. He specifically names Juventus, Liverpool and United as the three clubs pursuing the Bologna boss.

He however explains that the 41-year-old coach would prefer a switch away from Italy, meaning England is his preferred destination.

According to Galetti, Motta hasn’t yet made a definitive decision on his future and notes that the option to remain with Bologna is still on the table.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder would contemplate staying with the Rossoblu side, who are on course for Champions League qualification owing to a fantastic 2023/24 season that has seen them amass 58 points from 31 matches to sit fourth in the standings.

Bologna are above historical giants like Roma, reigning champions Napoli and Lazio. They’re also just four points adrift of Juventus.

If Galetti’s information is anything to go by, United could now have a major advantage over Juventus if they intend to press ahead with a deal to sign Motta and install him as Ten Hag’s successor.
