Are New York Giants desperate to trade up in 2024 NFL draft?

The New York Giants hold the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft and are in a position to grab one of the top players in this year’s class.

But will they be selecting high enough to nab one of the players they really covet? Will they have to move up in the order to do so, is the question.

Pro Football Focus’ Trevor Sikkema believes the Giants are desperate to move up into the top 5 so they can get themselves a new franchise quarterback.

Schoen himself detailed what he might do in a recent interview.

“We don’t wanna be up here again — we don’t want to be picking in the top 10,” Schoen told Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. “We have multiple needs. We are going into Year 3. People assume we’re going quarterback, but we have other needs.

“If the quarterbacks go 1-4, then we’re getting the second-best position player, not quarterback, at six, which is O.K., too. That player will really help us. Even last year, our quarterback coach was at the C.J. Stroud workout. We spent a lot of time with Will Levis, Anthony Richardson.”

The Giants only have six selections in this year’s draft, so trading up would not only cut into this year’s class but next year’s as well. They have too many needs at the moment to expend all of that draft capital to get one player.

With Chicago almost certain to take USC’s Caleb Williams first overall, the draft starts at No. 2 with Washington. They’re poised to select a quarterback as well, most likely LSU’s Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye of UNC.

The New England Patriots, at No. 3, could be open for business but only if the deal is right, let’s say, with the Giants for the No. 6 pick.

Arizona and the Los Angeles Chargers have the fourth and fifth selections, respectively, and will either trade back with a team seeking a quarterback or select a top position player.
