Arteta vows to deliver Premier League title to Arsenal after final day disappointment

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta addressed fans at the Emirates Stadium following their second-place finish in the Premier League.

The Gunners did their job by beating Everton 2-1 thanks to a late Kai Havertz winner, but Manchester City’s 3-1 win over West Ham means they end the campaign two points behind Pep Guardiola’s side.

It marks another close call for the North London outfit, who led the standings for much of the season in 2022-23.

But like last year, they fell short and will have to rally once again when Arteta tries to win the coveted title for a sixth time since joining the club from City in 2019.

The Spaniard has promised fans inside the stadium at full-time that he and his players will deliver, no matter what it takes.

He said: “I’m very proud. First of all congratulations to Manchester City, they are the champions, and they’ve been incredible since December.

“We have tried with everything that we had. You can sense how much we wanted it, we really tried. It wasn’t enough, unfortunately.

“We’ve beaten every record this club ever had apart from winning it. This is the most competitive league ever in history and we have to be better. Now we need to find ways we have to improve.

One of the dreams I had when I joined was to reconnect everybody, to really bring this place to a different level.

“We are on that journey right now. I feel sad because I really wanted to deliver that trophy today because it would mean the world to them but we are closer, that’s for sure.

Now we have to be more determined, very courageous, very ambitious, and we need to go to a different level. We need to deliver.”

Only Jurgen Klopp has managed to dethrone Manchester City since Pep Guardiola won his first title after joining from Bayern Munich.

Arteta learned his trade under the legendary tactician but will have to do some more research ahead of what is sure to be another dramatic campaign in 2024-25.
