New York Giants select Drake Maye in way-too-early 2024 NFL re-draft

Is it time to re-draft the 2024 NFL draft already? Matt Holder of Bleacher Report did just that and it will surely frustrate New York Giants fans.

Although the Giants landed LSU stud wide receiver Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick this past April, Holder has them plucking their top target with that pick — North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye.

Holder, basing his re-draft on events that have happened since the draft, calls the Giants’ lucking into Maye a “dream scenario.”

Maye, of course, was taken third overall by the New England Patriots, who rebuffed all offers for the pick. The Giants were one of the teams seeking to move up for Maye but to no avail.

In Holder’s exercise, the top two picks were unchanged. USC quarterback Caleb Williams went first overall to Chicago followed by Washington selecting LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels at No. 2. The No. 4 spot, held by the Arizona Cardinals, was the same as well. They chose Ohio State wideout Marvin Harrison, Jr.

The Patriots opted for Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt instead of Maye at No. 3 with Holder citing Maye’s early struggles this spring up in Foxborough. Alt, who went to the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 5 appears to be a safer pick at this point.

Holder then had the Chargers taking Georgia tight end Brock Bowers to pair with quarterback Justin Herbert. That left Maye for the Giants to gobble up.

In New York, the former Tar Heel would likely play behind Daniel Jones to begin his career, similar to the situation he’s currently in with New England and Brissett. But the Giants might be a better fit given that they have an established left tackle in Andrew Thomas. The front office would just need to find a go-to receiver without having Nabers in the mix.

True. The Giants would then have to find another top-end wideout somewhere on Day 2 or 3 of the draft.

Nabers, incidentally, fell all the way to the Jets at No. 10. In reality, the Jets flipped picks with the Minnesota Vikings and selected Penn State offensive lineman Olu Fashanu.
