Tom Brady cheers on UCLA softball star Maya Brady for elite NSFW celebration

Looks like UCLA softball star Maya Brady inherited traits from her uncle: a competitive spirit, a penchant for winning, and Tom Brady’s “LFG” phrase.

Whenever Tom Brady gets a chance, he shouts out the sports champion on the rise in his family: his superstar niece, UCLA softball phenom Maya Brady.

Even though Tom is the face of American football, the Bradys are actually a ballpark family: Brady’s three sisters played the game, and Maya’s mom, Maureen, played at Fresno State in the early 1990s.

Tom even detailed how he used to tag along to the softball fields as “Maureen Brady’s little brother” when he was spotlighting Maya’s accomplishments during The Match.

Although UCLA took the first game against Oklahoma in the College World Series semifinals 7-3, Oklahoma dominated in the second winner-take-all game with 15-0. But before that soul-crushing Game 2 for the Bruins, Tom Brady proudly pointed out how much Maya took after him — especially by adopting his NSFW catchphrase.

“LET’S GO,” Brady tweeted before Game 2.

This isn’t the first time Maya’s uncle has heaped on praise for the centerfielder, who hit two home runs in Game 1 against Oklahoma.

“I think Maya is already the most athletic person of the family,” Tom told the Boston Globe in 2019. That was when she was the No. 2 softball recruit in the nation, and her short time with the Bruins further proves Tom’s point. With just two years under her belt, Maya enters the 2022 season “ranking fifth in UCLA history with a .697 slugging percentage (145 total bases, 208 at-bats)”, per UCLA.

And Maya Brady is already creating her own catchphrases in her wake. A 2021 dinger against Florida State was dubbed a “Brady bomb” as it shot into the stands.

But the most important trait Maya inherited from Tom was that rugged, unshakeable underdog mentality, even when Maya is clearly at the top of her game. Losses seem to fuel members of the Brady family as they embrace hardship as a chance to come back stronger.

“It just kind of shows that we were a force to be reckoned with the whole time,” Maya Brady told the Los Angeles Times following her double-homer game. “That maybe we didn’t get the respect that we deserved, and I think that for us to come out and throw a punch against a team like that just shows that UCLA softball is still in the running and still deserves to be talked about.”

As Maya Brady forges her own incredible legacy in softball, it’s clear that no one will be forgetting about Maya or UCLA anytime soon — especially not her uncle, who showers her with praise every chance he gets.
