Woj: Boston expected to look for another big man addition ahead of season’s trade deadline
Their ongoing regular season success and the impending comeback of Rob Williams III from knee surgery recovery doesn’t hinder the Boston Celtics to explore the market for another needed big man.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski detailed on the Wednesday’s segment of NBA Today that he expects the Cs to look for another huge body down low ahead of the trade deadline soon in February.
Their probable intentions, per Wojnarowski, comes from the idea of having an insurance option for Williams III and the 36-year-old Al Horford.
“I think for Boston now as you start to look out to the February trade deadline, I think another big man, another center who could play minutes in the case of Rob Williams missing time or a 36-year-old Al Horford being out,” Wojnarowski said, via MassLive’s Brian Robb. “They are trying to close every hole they can to be a championship team.
“We can watch Boston as they get closer to the trade deadline, seeing if there are any frontcourt help off their bench they could acquire.”
Outside of Horford, the Cs have plethora of frontcourt reserves to dwell on in the likes of Grant Williams, Blake Griffin, Luke Kornet and Noah Vonleh. But as the season continues to roll, uncertainty will be around and flexibility for urgent options are a must.
Boston was previously linked to San Antonio Spurs big man Jakob Poeltl, who has been an ingredient of trade chatter within the league circles as he is on an expiring deal. Should they manage to land him, the Cs are truly fixed to make that final step of hoisting their 18th banner.
So far, the Cs are riding on the best record so far in the league with 14-4. For this initial success to materialize on June, the club certainly needs to address their gaps with opportunities still available and piling up in this early portion of the 2022-23 campaign.
