Western Digital’s Storage Expansion Cards for Xbox Series X/S Are Real and Now Available
After a leak a few months ago, Western Digital and Microsoft have teamed up to create storage expansion cards for Xbox Series X/S.
The Western Digital WD_Black C50 storage expansion cards will be available in two storage configurations: 500GB, which costs $79.99, and 1TB, which will retail for $149.99 (the same price as Seagate’s 1TB storage expansion card). Both configurations are currently available to order on Western Digital’s website, Best Buy also has a listing, but only for the 1TB model.
This marks the first time Xbox has announced a new expandable storage card option not made by Seagate since the Xbox Series X|S launched nearly three years ago. Unlike Sony’s PS5, which uses M.2 SSDs, Microsoft uses proprietary storage for its fourth generation of home gaming consoles.
While Xbox Series X|S’s storage option is easier to use as you plug it into the rear of either console, as opposed to opening up your PS5, the big drawback was that Xbox owners could only buy an expansion card from Seagate, which came at a price even for the 512GB option.
