Jude Bellingham says belief in the Real Madrid camp is growing as they attempt to pull off another miracle in the Champions League.

Madrid were overwhelmed by Arsenal in the first leg last week, the Gunners winning 3-0 at the Emirates, meaning a special night is required at the Santiago Bernabeu if the defending European champions are to reach the semi-finals.

Bellingham admitted there was doubt immediately after the first game but now the squad is confident they can get the job done tomorrow night.

Bellingham – we now have confidence that we can do it

Speaking at the pre-match press conference this afternoon, the England midfielder said: “After the game it is complicated but you can see the confidence we now have.

“It’s contagious and makes you have more confidence with the situation you are in.

“I can’t say it was immediate. When we were on the us [after the game in London] we were not as we are now, but we believe in ourselves.”

Madrid are not on a great run, their 1-0 win at Alaves at the weekend, was their first victory in four games.

We are not always going to do everything right – Bellingham

But Bellingham still thinks they have enough to get through.

“Of course,” he added. “We have had complicated matches but, even so, we have managed to win. I think there are negative things in the games, we are not always going to do everything right.

“We are still able to do things very well regardless of the bad times. We have to trust in our possibilities.

“You have to trust that the players will give everything. There have been magical nights at the Bernabéu and we believe we can do things much better. We have to increase the level of attention and we can be there, of course we can.

“We are not fools, but we trust in the abilities we have. We weren’t really surprised by Arsenal. They are a very good team and they have a great coach.”

‘Remontada’ is the word most used in the Madrid dressing room

The word ‘remontada’ – comeback in Spanish – has been all over the local media, and Bellingham says it has also been the most used word in the dressing room.

“I must have heard it a million times over the last week,” he said. “This motivates us a lot. It’s a night that is tailor-made for Real Madrid.

“At the Bernabeu, there is always an incredible atmosphere, the energy is contagious. We are not asking the fans to do something they have not done before.

“It’s up to us. We also have to feel their energy and give everything to make them proud.”
