Toffees’ run under Moyes continues with big away win

Everton secured a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park with goals from Beto and Carlos Alcaraz ensuring David Moyes’ side left South London with all three points.

The game started with Crystal Palace showing early attacking intent, as Jean-Philippe Mateta tested Jordan Pickford with a low-driven shot in the sixth minute.

Moments later, Justin Devenny also forced a save, but the Toffees’ defence held firm. Everton grew into the game, with Alcaraz and Beto linking up well. In the 32nd minute, Alcaraz saw his powerful strike saved by Dean Henderson.

The breakthrough came in the 42nd minute when Everton rounded off a swift counterattack. Alcaraz played a through ball to Beto, who calmly slotted home from close range, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead going into half-time.

Oliver Glasner responded with changes at the break, introducing Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton to inject fresh energy into the side. The substitutions paid off almost immediately, as Palace equalised just two minutes into the second half.

Marc Guehi’s perfectly timed pass found Mateta, who made no mistake with his left-footed finish, slotting past Pickford to restore parity at 1-1.

Palace continued to push forward, with Ben Chilwell and Eze both trying their luck from distance, but Pickford remained a tough wall to crack.

Everton weathered the storm and regained their lead in the 80th minute. Following a set-piece, Ashley Young’s initial effort was blocked, but the rebound fell to Alcaraz, who guided the ball into the bottom right corner, sending the away fans into raptures.

The final ten minutes saw Palace throwing everything forward. Eze came agonizingly close in the 86th minute, his curling effort drifting just past the post.

Glasner made further attacking substitutions, bringing on Daichi Kamada and Eddie Nketiah, but Everton defended outstandingly. Six minutes of added time were announced

Despite late pressure and a flurry of set-pieces, Everton held on to claim a crucial win, boosting their hopes of climbing towards the top half of the Premier League table.

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, will feel frustrated at not making the most of their chances.
