Thomas Tuchel reveals major Chelsea concern ahead of 2022/23 season
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has been speaking about a major concern he has heading into the 2022/23 season.
Tuchel’s comments came following the Blues’ rather embarrassing 4-0 loss at the hands of Arsenal on Sunday morning.
Following that game, which Chelsea obviously didn’t score in despite having some good chances, Tuchel was asked if he was concerned about goalscoring, to which he replied:
“For sure. If you look at the first half, it was even hard to escape our half in a productive way and to play in the opponent’s half in a positive way and create chances – we had one chance with a shot [that hit the post].
“But the amount of dangerous situations, the amount of one against ones, the amount of accelerations in the second half, where we dominated the game and were the better team in the first 22 minutes, but with their first action they score and we didn’t have too many dangerous situations [after that].
“Listen, it’s the same players, so why should anything change? We will see hopefully development but at the moment, we have the same issues because we have the same players.”

Chelsea’s lack of goals has been an issue since Tuchel arrived at the club. Tammy Abraham was Chelsea’s top scorer in 2020/21, but Tuchel was not a fan and sanctioned his transfer to AS Roma.
Chelsea then spent big on Romelu Lukaku last summer, but the Belgian also fell out of favour and is now on loan at Inter Milan.
And whilst Lukaku did finish last season with 15 goals, the most of any Chelsea player, the west Londoners’ top goalscorer in the Premier League was actually Mason Mount with just 11 goals.
