Team news, injury update as Glasner likens Eagles to F1 car

New signing Trevoh Chalobah will miss Crystal Palace vs Leicester with an injury he picked up during his first training session with the club, Eagles manager Oliver Glasner has said.

Former England Under-21 international Chalobah moved to Palace on a season-long loan from Chelsea on transfer deadline day but is not in contention to accompany new £15.2 million arrival Maxence Lacroix at the back when the Foxes visit Selhurst Park on Saturday (3pm BST).

Forward Eddie Nketiah, who cost £30m from Arsenal, is in contention to make his debut, as is on-loan Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Palace vs Leicester

Glasner does not expect Chalobah to be out for long and had positive news over an injury concern for midfielder Oliver Wharton.

“He’s available,” said the Austrian. “He just needed last week to train individually and have a few days off. This week he’s been in every training session.”

A knee injury suffered by Chadi Riad during Palace’s 4-0 home win over Norwich City in the Carabao Cup on August 27 is less serious than initially feared.

“The doctor told us it will take eight to twelve weeks,” added Glasner. “In the beginning, we thought it was worse but they said it wasn’t a rupture.”

Palace transfers: Glasner ‘pleased’

Palace picked up their first point of the season at the third attempt in a 1-1 draw at Chelsea on September 1 and Glasner has told his players their return to action after the international break is “like a restart”.

“When you have a Formula One car and you have to change one tyre – it’s the same in our squad,” he said. “We have had 30 to 40% changes in our squad.

“This means we have to build a new group and find a common sense of how we want to play on the pitch and how we want to treat each other.

“I’m pleased with all our business on transfer deadline day: great players with great characters and a good spirit in the group. But we also have to be critical.”

Leicester are also on one point after drawing 1-1 at home to Tottenham, losing 2-1 at Fulham and being beaten 2-1 by visitors Aston Villa on August 31.
