Splatoon 3 Gets September Release Date

Splatoon 3 will be released on September 9, and we’ve gotten a new trailer showing off a full round’s worth of gameplay.

Revealed by Nintendo, a new trailer shows off a full 4v4 Turf War battle from the inky shooter – set on a new stage, Eeltail Alley – and follows pre-orders opening last week.

Nintendo also revealed that, as of today, the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion DLC will be available as a free download to Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass subscribers.

Splatoon 3 was first announced last year, and brings back a familiar mix of competitive multiplayer (albeit with new weapons and special abilities), a co-op mode called Salmon Run, and a new single-player campaign titled “Return of the Mammalians”.

It’s wil have been 5 years since Splatoon 2 by the time the sequel arrives. We awarded the last game an 8.3 review, saying a “crazy and clever co-op mode helps this team-based shooter make a splash”. The subsequent Octo Expansion got itself an 8.8 review, with our reviewer saying the gratifyingly difficult levels made them “wish this had been Splatoon 2’s base campaign all along.”
