Snoop Dogg reflects on his bond with Queen Elizabeth II

Snoop Dogg has nothing but love for the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The rapper, 52, spoke about the monarch and her passing in an interview with UK radio station Capital FM on July 23, affectionately describing her as “my girl.”

Rather fittingly, the conversation went down as Snoop, aka Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, and interviewer Jordan North had tea at the posh Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel in London.

The conversation turned to Queen Elizabeth when Snoop shared what he was hoping to do while in town. 

“I’ll go by the palace, see if they let me in,” he told North, presumably referring to Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British monarch. 

“Well, I’ve heard the future king, William, is a huge Snoop fan,” North remarked. 

“Hopefully I can get in,” the artist, and, more recently, Olympics sportscaster said before turning the conversation to Queen Elizabeth. 

“Well, the Queen was a fan too,” he stated. “Rest in peace to the Queen, that was my girl. You know what I’m saying? So, just may want to go up and, you know, see what you do.”

“I’m pretty sure you could go to the palace – You’re Snoop Dogg, you can do anything you want,” North replied. “They going to let me in?” he asked.

North quipped, “Yeah, I can sort that out.”

However, it doesn’t appear that Mr. D. O. Double G was did get into Buckingham Palace after all. 

A spokesperson for King Charles told The Post that, as far as they were aware, Snoop did not visit the royal residence in the days after his interview on July 23 and did not meet with the King. 

Kensington Palace, the office of Prince William, the Prince of Wales, and Catherine, the Princess of Wales, declined to comment.

The Post has reached out Snoop Dogg’s reps for comment.

Snoop, who is celebrating 30 years of his and Dr. Dre’s seminal track, “Gin and Juice,” has spoken of his fondness for the late Queen Elizabeth in the past and called Her Majesty “my girl” or “my gal.”

In a 2015 interview with The Guardian and then in a February 2022 interview with DJ Whoo Kid, Snoop revealed why he will always have a soft spot for Britain’s longest reigning monarch.

Back in 1994, the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” hitmaker was faced with calls for him to be expelled from the UK while he was there on tour because he was charged for the murder of an LA man in 1993. Though the charges were dropped in 1996, at the time, Snoop found himself on the front page of British tabloids, with one headline screaming, “Kick this evil bastard out!”

As Snoop tells it, the Queen intervened to prevent his deportation.  

“When they tried to kick me out of England, the Queen made a comment that her grandbabies loved Snoop Doggy Dogg, and he had done no wrong in the UK, so she gave me permission to be here,” he told The Guardian.

“Those grandbabies grew up to be Prince William and Harry, so I had influence on them, and they had influence on their grandmother, which enabled me to get into this beautiful country,” he continued. “They love my music, and it is what it is. There’s a mutual love and respect.”

“The Queen said, ‘This man has done nothing in our country,’” Snoop told DJ Whoo Kid in 2022. “The queen… bow down… When the Queen speaks, bow down. That’s Harry and William’s grandmother, you dig?”

“You think they weren’t there, saying, ‘Grandma, please let him in, grandma. He’s OK. We love his music.’”

Snoop imagined the Queen telling her grandson, Prince Harry, “‘You know Harry, I’ll let him in for you. He’s not so bad after all and he’s quite cute.’ The Queen, that’s my gal.”

Snoop posted a clip from his DJ Whoo Kid interview on Instagram just one day after the queen died on September 8, 2022. He captioned the post, “RIP to the Queen.”

Snoop also appears to have affection for King Charles.

In 2023, he told The Sun that he wanted to perform at Charles’ coronation.

“I’m down to perform at the coronation,” he said. “Make it happen.” Snoop did not, however, end up being one of the performers on the King’s big day.

As for Princes William and Harry, Snoop considers them friends.

He told Graham Norton in 2011 that Prince Harry invited him to perform at Prince William’s bachelor party before he wed Kate Middleton, an invitation Snoop could not accept because he had a barbecue to go to.

In 2010, the rap icon also told Twitter, now known as X, that he made his song “Wet” as “tha anthem 4 Prince William’s bachelor party.” He even tagged the Twitter account for Clarence House, then the official residence for King Charles when he was the Prince of Wales. “U feelin it??” he added.

“Harry and William are my boys,” he told The Mirror in 2021. “As soon as I knew they were fans, I reached out to them.”
