Sixers to celebrate franchise’s dominant title team in 80s
The Philadelphia 76ers are set to honor their last NBA title team.
On next Tuesday, March 20, the club will celebrate the 40th anniversary of their winning of the NBA championship back in the 1982-83 season, as they will conduct a halftime ceremony against the Chicago Bulls.
Fans inside the Wells Fargo Center will wear special “Fo’ Fo’ Fo’” warmup shirts, honoring the late great Moses Malone’s prediction for his team that season for their playoff exploits. Eventually, Philadelphia just lost one game on their dominant title run.
The announcement further highlighted Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, Bobby Jones, Marc Iavaroni, Clint Richardson, Reggie Johnson, Clemon Johnson, Franklin Edwards and Earl Cureton as players expected to attend. Meanwhile, the family of Malone will also be there on behalf of the hall of famer.
The Sixers won the title steamrolling the 1982-83 bracket, even sweeping the Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar-led L.A. Lakers team in the Finals round.
