Silent Hill Director Says ‘Multiple’ Silent Hill Games in Development
The Silent Hill movie director, Christophe Gans, may have confirmed that multiple Silent Hill games are indeed in the works, corroborating rumors that have been circulating for some time now. Gans directed the 2006 Silent Hill film, and has previously teased his involvement in a new Silent Hill movie.
In a recent French video interview, Gans spoke about the future of the Silent Hill franchise, and thanks to a translation posted on ResetEra (which IGN separately confirmed to be accurate), Gans teased what’s to come on the video game front.
“I’m working with the Silent Team, the original creators at Konami, there are several games in development as we speak, there are several teams on it, with a big line of games, they will revive the franchise,” Gans said. “I think they were really impressed of the success of the remakes of Resident Evil that are evidently exceptional games.”
Gans added that he’s not working directly on the games, but he’s working with “the Silent Team who I met when I filmed the first Silent Hill movie.” Of course, one person Gans said he’s obviously not working with is Hideo Kojima.
When the interviewer pressed for more details, Gans claimed “there are several games” and and that Bloober Team is working on the rumored Silent Hill 2 remake. And, according to Gans, there are several teams working on other Silent Hills projects, as well.
The Silent Hill rumor mill has been churning for a couple years now. First, in early 2021, we heard that multiple Silent Hill projects may be in the works at third-party developers. Then leaked images of an alleged Silent Hill project were quickly deleted after they surfaced online earlier this year.
Last month, an unannounced Silent Hill game titled The Short Message was rated in South Korea. It’s currently unknown if The Short Message is a new mainline installment, a teaser, a spin-off, or even a mobile game.
The original Silent Hill launched in 1999 on PlayStation. The series was a horror staple throughout the 2000s, until it came to a halt in 2012 after the release of Silent Hill: Downpour and Silent Hill: Book of Memories. And, of course, there’s PT, which redefined urban legends for the 21st century.
