Shams Charania reveals top 2 candidates for Suns head coach position
Following their disappointing elimination from the Western Conference Semifinals by the Nuggets, the Suns wasted no time in parting ways with head coach Monty Williams. As the Suns begin their search for a new leader, NBA insider Shams Charania has provided some insight into the potential candidates being considered for the coveted position.
In a recent appearance on FanDuelTV, Charania revealed the Suns’ eagerness to make a significant investment in their next head coach, considering it a highly desirable job with stars Kevin Durant and Devin Booker locked in for the long term.
Charania mentioned two names that have caught the Suns’ attention as top contenders. “Tyronn Lue, head coach of the Clippers, he’s the Suns’ number one target from what I’m told,” Charania stated. Lue’s future with the Clippers remains uncertain following their disappointing season, and the Suns are monitoring his situation closely, awaiting the outcome of his discussions with the Clippers organization.
“It all just depends on how Ty Lue’s conversations go with the Clippers in the aftermath of this disappointing season in LA and the potential of him signing a contract extension with the Clippers. Where do those conversations go this week. I think they will ramp up even more,” Charania said.
Another notable candidate on the Suns’ radar is Nick Nurse, the former head coach of the Toronto Raptors. Nurse, who won Coach of the Year and led the Raptors to an NBA championship, brings a wealth of experience and success to the table.
Charania’s information suggests that the Suns are likely to interview a total of six or seven candidates for the head coach position. While Lue and Nurse stand out as frontrunners, the Suns are expected to explore various options to ensure they find the right fit for their talented roster.
