Sergio Llull stuns Olympiacos to give Real Madrid 11th EuroLeague title
Real Madrid has emerged as the champions of Europe once again, securing their record-breaking 11th EuroLeague title in a captivating final against Olympiacos in Kaunas, Lithuania. In what will be remembered as one of the most thrilling championship games in EuroLeague history, Los Blancos fought from behind to snatch the victory in the closing seconds.
For the majority of the game, Real Madrid trailed their opponents, but they relied on their experienced players to stage a remarkable comeback. Sergio Rodriguez displayed nerves of steel as he drained a clutch three-pointer, bringing Real Madrid within one point. Then, Sergio Llull stepped up and hit the go-ahead jumper with just 3.1 seconds left on the clock, which was his only points of the game.
Olympiacos, who failed to score in the final two minutes of the game, had one last opportunity to turn the tides, but Kostas Sloukas’ buzzer-beater attempt fell short, sealing the victory for Real Madrid.
Rodriguez showcased his skills throughout the game, finishing with 15 points and 9 assists, while Walter Tavares, the Final Four MVP, recorded an impressive double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Mario Hezonja also made a valuable contribution with 12 points.
Despite the defeat, Olympiacos’ Sasha Vezenkov delivered a phenomenal performance, tying the championship game record with 29 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Isaiah Canaan also put up a notable effort, scoring 21 points in a losing cause.
