Seahawks take first step toward repairing relationship with Bobby Wagner
One year after releasing him, Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider revealed that he had discussions with linebacker Bobby Wagner.
The Seattle Seahawks shocked the NFL world this past season making the playoffs with a 9-8 record when they were expected to be one of the worst teams in the league.
The team has already begun their offseason, signing quarterback Geno Smith to a three-year, $105 million contract before the start of the new league year.
Now, it’s time to build to make another run to the playoffs.
Could they bring back a longtime face of the franchise for another run?
During an appearance on Seattle Sports 710 AM, Seahawks general manager John Schneider said that he and head coach Pete Carroll have recently had discussions with former star linebacker Bobby Wagner.
“We have been able to (talk to him) now, so (head coach Pete Carroll) and I were able to talk to him the other day, and we had a great, awesome, frank conversation, so he knows where we are, and we know where he’s at,” Schneider said, h/t Seattle Sports 710 AM. “We have so much respect for him personally and professionally, so we were able to talk through some things and yeah, we know where it’s going.”

These comments from Schneider come after a Tacoma News Tribune report back on March 1 revealed that the Seahawks were interested in reuniting with Wagner.
The Seahawks used their 2012 second-round pick on Wagner, who played football at Utah State. Wagner was one of Schneider’s best draft picks since taking over as general manager in 2010. The middle linebacker was named to the Pro Bowl eight times, to the All-Pro First Team six times, and the All-Pro Second Team two times during his time in Seattle. Not to mention that he was the NFL’s leading tackler in the 2016 and 2019 seasons. Wagner also played a role
But after the 2021 season, the Seahawks released Wagner from his contract. The linebacker said the team never told him of their plans to cut him. That offseason, Wagner signed a five-year, $50 million contract with the Los Angeles Rams, who were just coming off of a Super Bowl 56 victory.
Wagner played in all 17 games for the Rams, recording 140 combined tackles (81 solo, 59 assisted), 10 quarterback hits, six sacks, five passes defended, and two interceptions.
The Rams finished the year with a 5-12 record. After the season, reports indicated that the Rams planned on releasing Wagner.
Seahawks fans will now wait and wonder if Schneider will be able to get Wagner to come back to Seattle. It would be quite the story for Wagner to return to the team that drafted him one year after his release by the team.
