After Aston Villa won 2-0 at home to Cardiff City on Friday, there were two early games on Saturday in the FA Cup fifth round 2025.
Premier League club Crystal Palace hosted Championship visitors Millwall in a south London derby, while neighbours also met at Preston North End’s Deepdale, where fellow second-tier side Burnley were seeking Lancashire bragging rights.
That fixture ensured there would be at least one club from outside the Premier League involved when the quarter-finals are held at the end of March.

Crystal Palace vs Millwall: Mateta injury mars win
A worrying early injury to Jean-Philippe Mateta marred a comfortable 3-1 win for Palace, with the striker departing for hospital after taking a boot to the head in a dreadful high challenge by Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts, who was sent off after eight minutes.

Japhet Tanganga’s headed own-goal put the Eagles ahead after 33 minutes before Daniel Munoz struck their second five minutes from half-time.

Wes Harding replied in the 13th minute of first-half added time, lashing in before Eddie Nketiah headed in with nine minutes remaining.

Preston vs Burnley: Hosts spring surprise
Burnley conceded for a second time in all competitions since December 21 when Robbie Brady’s marvellous curling free-kick put Preston, who are 26 points behind them in the league, ahead in the 31st minute.

Milutin Osmajic added their second a minute before half-time and Will Keane netted in the 73rd minute as North End sailed through 3-0.

Midtable Preston won the competition in 1889 and 1938 and are in the quarter-finals for the first time since 1966, having beaten League One teams Charlton Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers at home in the previous rounds.

When is the FA Cup quarter-final draw 2025?
The draw will take place on Sunday, March 2 after United attempt to earn a third win over Fulham this season when the Cottagers visit Old Trafford.
That game starts at 4.30pm, so the earliest the draw could potentially take place is around 6.30pm.
All ties from the first round of the competition must be settled on the day, so there could be extra time and penalties if the score remains level, which would push the approximate time of the draw past 7pm.
