Rockets vying for most of all solid FAs available, looking to add pieces for young core
The Houston Rockets are planning to take a major shift heading into next season after three-straight years of mediocrity, and they have their eyes set on almost all of the upcoming free-agents in the market.
Per Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle, the Rockets are leaning toward not necessarily acquiring specific positions or skills as much as veterans that make “winning plays,” but instead pieces that will help their promising core bannered by Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, and Jabari Smith Jr. to take the next step.
Added by Feigen, Houston have specific interest on Bucks’ Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez, the Nuggets’ Bruce Brown, the Jazz’s Jordan Clarkson, the Lakers’ Rui Hachimura and Austin Reeves, the Nets’ Cam Johnson, the Warriors’ Donte DiVincenzo, the Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks, the Raptors’ Jakob Poeltl and the Mavericks’ Dwight Powell. More than these mentioned veterans, the club is closely tied with both James Harden and Fred VanVleet.
The Rockets are projected to boast a $62.3 million in cap space — the largest of all NBA teams heading to this summer’s free agency.
With this kind of amount, the franchise are truly positioned for a change especially with new coach Ime Udoka set to lead them. Should they land reliable veterans to help their young core to grow and build winning habits, the Rockets are set for a bright future for years to come.
