The Washington Wizards will continue to stick around Wes Unseld Jr., still calling the head coach to return this upcoming 2023-24 season, per Josh Robbins of The Athletic.

As such, team president and general manager Tommy Sheppard confirmed Tuesday this commitment by the club.

“He is our coach moving forward,” Sheppard said of Unseld Jr.

Unseld Jr. was tapped by Shepperd last 2021 offseason to sit as Washington’s newest head coach, succeeding Scoot Brooks with hopes to guide the franchise towards greater heights.

But Unseld Jr.’s wonders remain yet to take full effect in this Wizards team. D.C. will head to the exits of regular season not qualified for playoff contention for the second-straight year. For Sheppard, Unseld Jr. faced unfair circumstances like injury issues, as cornerstone Bradley Beal is set to tally a career-low 50 games of appearance this 2022-23.

Unseld also had minimal time using his core trio of Beal, Kyle Kuzma and Kristaps Porzining, wherein they only appeared 35 games together and have tallied a fair 16-19 card.

Wizards currently sits at the 12th spot of the East, as their offseason looms around the potential free agency of Kuzma as well as Porzingis.
