Benedict Hollerbach’s 83rd-minute strike earned Union Berlin a potentially precious point in their rally against relegation as Bayern Munich dropped points for the second time in a week with a draw at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.
Substitute Leroy Sane’s 75th-minute finish had put the dominant visitors on course to move 11 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
Former Bayern youth player Hollerbach pounced from inside the box after rookie Roten goalkeeper Jonas Urbig failed to hold Josip Juranovic’s cross.

Union Berlin v Bayern
Having suffered a shock first home league defeat of the season to third-bottom Bochum last Saturday, Bayern were unconvincing again for much of their contest with opponents who started the day six points above the relegation zone.
Vincent Kompany’s players produced 14 of the 18 attempts at goal but only four of the seven on target, going closest during the first half when Serge Gnabry was denied by goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow in a one-on-one just before half-time.
Top scorer Harry Kane, who netted twice when Bayern won the first meeting between the teams this season 3-0, had a quiet game by his standards, testing Ronnow with a free-kick shortly after half-time.
Urbig did well to stop a fierce Juranovic drive at his near post before Bayern went ahead when Sane arrived ahead of Jeong Woo-yeong to meet Josip Stanisic’s cross and score his seventh goal of the campaign.
And that, Unioner, is that. A fine, brave point on the pitch. A glorious racket in the stands. Eisern Union! pic.twitter.com/M5Gz0w1BVZ

Kompany: Urbig mistake ‘chaos moment’
New signing Urbig, who arrived from Koln in January and has been deputising for the injured Manuel Neuer, gifted Union their goal against the run of play.
“It was a little bit of a chaos moment for us,” Kompany said after the 21-year-old’s mistake on his second Bundesliga start.
“Perhaps it reflects on the courage of Union Berlin and perhaps it doesn’t reflect completely the way the game went. We will use the international break to come back fresh and get to our target.”
Bayern, who completed a 5-0 aggregate win over reigning German champions Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday, are next in action at home to fourth-bottom St Pauli on March 29 (2.30pm GMT).
Union will seek to extend their unbeaten run to three games when they are away 24 hours later, taking on a Freiburg side who are currently sixth.
