Real Madrid loses €27.8M in EuroLeague-winning campaign
Real Madrid, despite winning the EuroLeague, faced a 27.8 million euro financial loss in 2022-23, per 2Playbook.
The shortfall came from expenses surpassing income, mainly due to bonuses tied to the EuroLeague victory.
Their record-breaking 22 million euro income fell short of covering overall costs.
This financial struggle echoes past seasons, with losses of 28.9 million euros in 2017-18 and 27.9 million euros in 2014-15 after previous European triumphs.
President Florentino Perez aimed to make the basketball division profitable but didn’t implement budget cuts for 2023-24, in contrast to Barcelona.
Despite financial challenges, Real Madrid excels in the current season, leading the EuroLeague and Liga Endesa with an undefeated record.
Heading to Round 8 of the ACB Regular Season, they seek a 15th consecutive win against Coviran Granada on Sunday.
