Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss revealed he battled cancer recently during an Instagram livestream on Friday.
“Your boy is a cancer survivor,” Moss proclaimed. “Been in the hospital for six days. I just got out today — thanks God!
The former NFL superstar offered thanks to the doctors, nurses and fans who showed him some love as he recovered.
“I felt all the prayers coming through there,” he said. “You prayer warriors, all my teammates. I’ve seen everting you guys tweeted at me. All the prayers. All the well-wishes.”
He promised a return to ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” — as soon as his recovery would let him back into the studio.
“I did have cancer,” he said. “They found it in the bowel duct, right in-between the pancreas and the liver. So my doctors … they went in, I had a six-hour surgery. Dr. Martini, you’re the man, I had a Whipple procedure. I am forever grateful.
“Y’all best believe your boy came through.”
He did not answer any questions on the broadcast, but seemingly took a swipe at Larry Fitzgerald Sr., the father of former Cardinals star Larry Fitzgerald, and former NFL quarterback Brett Favre, who both posted on X on Tuesday that the elder Moss had been diagnosed with liver cancer.
“I told you guys that I was going through something and I needed your prayers,” Moss said. “There was a few people out here trying to be doctors that weren’t doctors.”
Moss’ message came after his son, Thaddeus, shut down reports Wednesday that the NFL great was diagnosed with the disease.
On Dec. 6, ESPN announced that Moss was stepping away from his role as an ESPN analyst for an “extended time to focus on a personal health challenge.”
It came after Moss said he was “battling something internal” and asked for prayers during “Sunday NFL Countdown” on Dec. 1.
“I just ask for all the prayer warriors to put their blessing hands on me and my family through these hard times. And people were talking about my eyes last week,” Moss said before putting on a pair of sunglasses in a video he posted to Instagram. “If you see me with these on… I’m battling something, man, and it’s something internal. Your boy is going to get through it. I got a great team of doctors and got a great family around me. All you men, do your checkups and get your bloodwork done.”
Moss, who did not disclose a specific illness, captioned his post with, “Go get ur checkups!! Prayer Warriors i need u” and four emojis.
ESPN said Moss has the network’s full support during this time, and “we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.”
