Radio host rips caliber of Seahawks QB competition to absolute shreds

The Seattle Seahawks quarterback situation is bad, sure, but one radio host might’ve gone a little overboard.

As Drew Lock and Geno Smith compete for the starting quarterback spot on Pete Carroll’s squad, some fans are just now coming to the sad reality that one of those players will begin the season under center.

Carroll seems to think Seattle can win with either as a game manager. At worst, they will tank in an effort to find their quarterback of the future. This is the gamble the Seahawks took when they traded away an actual franchise QB in Russell Wilson.

Alas, radio host Adam Schein is not happy about it.

The 2022 NFL Draft quarterback class was deemed weak by pretty much anyone paid to evaluate the position. The 2023 class, however, could feature some future All-Pros.

If Geno or Lock work out, great! Maybe the Seahawks surprise some people. The far more likely result is they fail, thus giving Seattle a top draft pick where they can pick Bryce Young or CJ Stroud.

Lock missed around a week with an injury, which gave Smith a clear advantage. Given there are only three preseason games and a few weeks of practices, Geno has the edge for now. Lock returned to practice earlier this week, and Carroll commented on his progress.

“He did okay today, yeah, he seemed to bounce back,” Carroll told reporters. “He’s six, seven days into it now so he’s in good shape as far as getting back. But you never know until you get out there and start running around. He hung in there, tough, so that’s good.”

It could be a very long season in Seattle, but don’t go fooling yourself into thinking this is Carroll’s end game.
