Patrick Mahomes sees a budding star in one Chiefs rookie

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had nothing but praise for rookie wide receiver Justyn Ross.

The Kansas City Chiefs offense is going to look a bit different with wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Byron Pringle no longer on the team. They did address the position through both free agency and the draft, such as JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore. But there is one pass-catcher that has caught the eye of Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

When speaking with the media, Mahomes heaped praise on undrafted free agent and former Clemson Tigers star Justyn Ross, saying he “can only imagine how good he’s going to be because of the talent he possesses.”

Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes has huge praise for rookie wide receiver Justyn Ross

This is not the only time that Mahomes has been impressed by Ross. During OTA’s on Wednesday, the team’s official Twitter account put up a video of Ross making an impressive sideline catch. Mahomes could not help but expresses his disbelief that the rookie acted like the catch he made was normal.

Ross was Clemson’s top option in their passing offense, and looked to be a bonafide first round NFL Draft pick. But in 2020, Ross underwent surgery for a congenital fusion in his spine. He was able to play 10 games this past college football season, but still went undrafted this year.

During his three seasons played at Clemson, Ross caught 158 passes for 2,379 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Ross is looking to make the team, and so far he is catching the eye of the team’s starting quarterback.
