NYC building inferno leaves man dead as charred bikes, propane tanks seen in rubble

One man was killed and another critically hurt when an early-morning inferno ripped through a Brooklyn home Tuesday, officials said.

The fire erupted around 1:20 a.m. on the first floor of the three-story building on Vermont Street near Dumont Avenue in East New York, the FDNY said.

A 50-year-old man was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to fire and police officials.

Another man in his 40s was taken to the same hospital in critical condition, and a firefighter was transported there with minor injuries, according to the officials.

A dozen FDNY units, including 60 firefighters and EMS personnel, descended on the scene and extinguished the blaze within about an hour.
